I have Kunena 1.7.1, Joomla 1.7.3 and Jomsocial 2.2.5. (I have also tried with Jomsocial 2.4.1 but still the same problem). The problem appeard after I upgraded from Kunena 1.7.0 to Kunena 1.7.1 and I didn´t change any of my settings in Kunena after the update.

OK, so there must be a bug in Joomla 1.7 part of the code.

Looking at the code: The only categories which are showing up are those which have:

Access Level = Public or User Group = Public (visible to everyone)
Access Level = Registered or User Group = Registered (visible to all registered users)

All other categories are considered as private and not shown.

Then -- why isn't it working..? I see no reason why the code wouldn't work.

Just a check, Public has ID of 1, doesn't it?

I have solved it!

This is my Joomla users groups and I have changed the deafault group for guests from public to guest.

Public
|—Guest
|—Manager
|—|—Administrator
|—Moderator
|—Premium
|—Premium+
|—Premium++
|—Registered
|—|—Author
|—|—|—Editor
|—|—|—|—Publisher
|—Super Users

I have also a access level that is called public (all my Kunena categories are set to access level public) and in that Joomla access level I have only choosen "public" but that hasn´t been a problem since Joomla includes all the child groups. But for Kunena that is a problem because Kunena doesn´t include the child groups in Joomla access levels.

When I in my Kunena categories changed from access level public to group public and choosed to include the child groups then the problem was solved!
