We're looking into this issue to see if there's anything going on with having a ridiculously large number of forums. :)

You can also test with SEF off and on. Try disabling all plug-ins possible (even the Kunena system plug-in). Make sure you have no modules on the page.

Thanks!

My main site forums don't load that slow (although between 1-1.5 seconds depending) hikrs.com/forums

But notice this screen shot of the configurations (This is of my main site with faster loading time but not as good looking urls)

Getting rid of the numbers in the url makes all the difference.

On my test site hikrs.com/freshinstall/forum it has slightly nicer urls because of the config as seen here:

They both are almost exactly the same except for one option, and guess what, the test site forums is way slower as a result. So the problem is not too many categories, but when you have too many categories with the "Do not use Category ids" that it becomes a problem.

System Plugin sef makes no difference, tried both on and off and they load at the same speed.
Also disabled almost every plugin (except for authentication user and such) also disabled much of the kunena stuff which seemed to slightly increase the loading speed but not by much. Turned off all debug modes, rss, pdf, and even plugin kunena which still it has this problem.

Yes, we concur with that conclusion.

Does this have any bearing on the "redirect loop" issue?

When I click on a forum category, I get the following error message:

The page isn't redirecting properly

Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.

Is this a known issue? Could anyone tell me what to do to fix it?
