I wonder if someone could take a peek at our site and give me some hints as to why our brand new (IE: very few posts) is running extremely slow. When you click forums from the home page - it takes about 11 seconds to load. I have not added SEF in fear of slowing it down even more.
Would appreciate any tips! www.everythingmom.com/component/option,com_kunena/Itemid,4/
Thanks!

It's not just the forum: the whole site is really slow.
In your front page index.php takes 5-7 secs to load at the first time and after that about 2-3 secs. Usually front page seems to be about two times faster than the forum.
Do you have one of those cheap hosting services? It looks like that there are way too many sites on that server.

We are on a managed virtual server, so that should not be it?

I suggest the Firefox addon YSlow. The following is a report card from YSlow as I ran it on the link you provided:
F 1. Make fewer HTTP requests
F 2. Use a CDN
F 3. Add an Expires header
F 4. Gzip components
A 5. Put CSS at the top
D 6. Put JS at the bottom
A 7. Avoid CSS expressions
n/a 8. Make JS and CSS external
A 9. Reduce DNS lookups
C 10. Minify JS
A 11. Avoid redirects
A 12. Remove duplicate scripts
F 13. Configure ETags
Otherwise Matias is probably correct in that your hosting servers are likely overcrowded and overworked.

lol, just ignore that report card. I ran the same test on my site (which loads very quickly) and its identical so more then likely Matias is right.
