Kunena 7.0.5 & Kunena 6.4.11 – Security Updates Released
The Kunena team has announce the arrival of Kunena 7.0.5 [K 7.0.5] in stable which is now available for download as a native Joomla extension for J! 5.4.x/6.0.x. This version addresses most of the issues that were discovered in K 6.2 / K 6.3 / K 6.4 and issues discovered during the last development stages of K 7.0.
The Kunena team is also pleased to announce the eleventh version of Kunena 6.4, a native Joomla extension for Joomla! 5.0, 5.1, 5.2, 5.3, 5.4 and 6.0.
Question Problem with New Post Indicator
I have uninstalled jFusion, JomSocial, and all the rest.
I have deleted all modules and plugins.
I am using one of the standard Joomla templates.
I have uninstalled Kunena, and reinstalled it. I am using the default_ex template.
And nothing has made any difference. Quick Reply still does not work, and the New! function still does not work properly.
On my other site (with the same web hosts) I have installed all the programs, and upgraded to Kunena 1.5.9, and it works fine.
I have more or less destroyed my website to fix this, and nothing has.

But the New! function still doesn't work properly.

Can you send me a login in so I can check your website out myself?

Congratulations! I mean as far as getting the "New!" indicator to work is concerned. This establishes that there isn't a problem with Kunena, at least as far as your webhosting platform and it rather dismissed the "glitch" theory.I have Kunena installed on another website, without the problems I have on my current site. I have installed JomSocial on to that site, and have not replicated the problem.
However I have realised that my Quick Reply box is not working on my current site, but it is on my other one, and I am trying to fix that to see if it helps.
As soon as you wrote that you had installed JomSocial ( JS 1.6, right?) but your Quick Reply no longer functioned I knew immediately that a Javascript library had insinuated onto your site that was responsible. We've seen this problem before. Congratulations on discovering which library was responsible.
So far this has been good news to read (about your test site):

I hope my paraphrase of your account was accurate.I have taken everything off my [production] website, except one program ... uninstalled ... all [components], ...modules, plugins [and] ... I am using one of the standard Joomla templates.
I have uninstalled Kunena, and reinstalled it [on the problem site] - I am using the default_ex template - and nothing has made any difference: Quick Reply still does not work and the New! [indicator] still does not work properly.
On [another] site (with the same web hosts) [where] I have installed all [these] programs, and upgraded to Kunena 1.5.9, and [there are none of these problems].
I have more or less destroyed my [production] website to fix this, and nothing has.
I am sorry to hear that your production site is a mess. Unfortunately, due to the time delay between us, if I had seen your earlier message I would have written "That's great to hear, but let's take it slowly to see how to fix your production site - the one with the problems." I would not have advised you to take such drastic action as removing everything!
There is, however, one piece of the puzzle that hangs over this situation. What was the "one program" that you left after you removed everything?
I hope you made a backup before you commenced removing content from your production site and you can restore it to its former state. I hope you can inform us that you were able to repair the damage to your production site.
I have a suggestion to make about how to proceed from here that, I assure you, will cause less disastrous consequences that you faced when you wrote your last message.

The programs I have uninstalled didn't have that much content in, so aside from wasting hours of work there's not much damage.
I am waiting until my web hosts change all my stuff from Apache, as I need to delete some files from the folders where they have not totally uninstalled via Joomla.
I am so fed up with the whole thing, I will probably just wipe it all and reinstall Joomla.

From what you've written, you appear to have a workable strategy to rebuild your site - using the test site as the foundation. That would have been my approach (however, I would have done it in parallel with keeping the production site intact - even with a flawed Kunena component - while I was doing the new construction).
I'm sure you are keen to restore your operations to their former state, as quickly as possible. I would suggest, though, that you take backups after you install each new software component so that you have an exit strategy in case anything goes awry. As you install each new component, check that the installation has not jeopardised the safe operation of anything else you have already installed. From a Kunena perspective, check that the Quick Reply and New! indicator work as they're supposed to. I know that this will impede your recovery process, but it should ensure that you don't repeat any mistake you may have made with your original site. Perhaps, too, we may discover the identity of what caused your problems in the first place?
I wish you every success. You have my best wishes that that the recovery process will go smoothly and pass as quickly as possible.
Best wishes,
sozz
