As I've said before, the Forum is basically private to members (=Joomla Author), but the exception is one sub-category (Showcase) that is visible to the Public and has a link on the Public Menu. I've now set this up and it seems to work. The only problem (aside from the ongoing display problem) is that the category Layouts under Showcase has 24 topics but comes up blank.

The only problem (aside from the ongoing display problem) is that the category Layouts under Showcase has 24 topics but comes up blank.

The categories are listed in the flash menu that you can find on this page. This is due to the settings. You have apparently changed the view for this category. Go to this category -> Display settings and check whether this setting matches the setting on the image.

Yes that's how it's set. By the way, when I say it comes up blank, I mean blank - the whole page is blank - nothing at all.

The same is on your page when you call up the index. The only difference (due to the Joomla template) is that you have the dropdown menu on the right-hand side.

First fix your menu.

Then create an alias to kunenamenu-item for your forum menu-item.

Sorry, but which problem is this addressing? I seem to have messed things up as the whole website domain now points to the Forum. Help!
