Although it's great official translations now exist, IMHO shipping them in the default installation is not the best idea, and here are at least two reasons:

1. Installer size - it'll keep getting bigger as more languages are added, and some people will have trouble uploading, timeouts, etc.

2. Kunena will install xx-YY language files into main (/administrator)/language/xx-YY, but if at some point you remove language xx-YY from your main Joomla config, it'll remove Kunena's language files too. If you later decide to reinstall language xx-YY for the main Joomla config, you'll have to completely reinstall Kunena to get the Kunena language files back too.

Individual Joomla 1.5/1.6 language packages are easy to make and maintain and should be the preferred option.

However, it's still a good idea to retain the installation language files for the main Kunena installer package.

Hello! fxstein.

Some time ago we hear about migration script that transform lang files from 1.5.x to 1.6. This project was abandoned? Should we get latest packages Kunena 1.6 beta1 and start translating from scratch?

language files are very small in size only about 60kb so they wont affect the overall size of the package by very much and from what i understand there will only be about 6 languages add to teh main package rest will be addons (seperate downloads)...

2. kunena language files are not stored in the MAIN language directorys so are not affected by joomla changes.

packages will not need to be maintained they will be updated as needed during kunena upgrades by the kunena devs.

However, it's still a good idea to retain the installation language files for the main Kunena installer package.[/quote]

Matias has a migration tool to help with the upgrade. It will give you a good start. I will point him to this thread.

We wont be including ALL languages, but we want the most common ones in there. It will make it at lot easier for our community and will require less manual steps after the install.
