I assume, in forum settings, you have:Have reset ... all [Kunena parameters] according to the suggestions .
Interestingly, now I have chaged my configuration, I have 'Registered Uses only' set to 'no' (was previously 'yes'), but the forum is not showing publicly??? (I have cleared cache and temp files).

The main config definitely has 'Registered Users Only' set to 'No', but although guests can see the category titles, tey cannot see the forums within them.
You can see it for yourself
Like I said, I tried out all the configuration options when I had v1.5 installed, then uninstalled that and installed v.1.0.9 and everything seemed to transition without a problem - don't know whether this has had a bearing or not. :S

Well ... I wonder too! Even though I've seen other cases where people have gone down the dreaded K1.5.0a path - despite all the warnings that were issued - *sigh* ... but they've (luckily) been able to recover, there seems to be a lot of anecdotal evidence that "something" was left behind than hasn't left things "right".
So I'm not saying that you can't go from K 1.5.0a back to K 1.0.9 with 100% success, and I'm not saying that K 1.5.0a was responsible for you getting into the mess in the first place, but you have to wonder ...
The main question, alistair, is this: Were you always able to work with moderated forums in the past or is this a newly-discovered problem? A second question, allied to the first is this: Are you past the point of no-return, in the sense of being able to start all over again?

2) secondly, I never tried out the moderated forums before I rolled back so I don't knw whether it was working or not - however, I was able to view the posts as an unregistered user, which I'm not now - although this isn't a problem as I don't want it changing back.
3) Finally, I think, yes, I am past the point of no return.
Some thoughts:
Is there not a configuration component fiel that I change?
Would it be worth going back to 1.5 maing the changes there, then rolling back again?
Woudl waitig until the next upgrade sort things out?
Thanks for the support thus far

- Create a totally new Joomla installation;
- turn on "legacy" mode;
- install Kunena 1.0.9 in that new site;
- test for the "e-mail to moderator" and "public access to forums" problems; and
- report back here that they work
I don't know how long until there's a stable production release of Kunena that's "natively" compatible with Joomla 1.5. It could be a couple of weeks; it could be a couple of months. Unfortunately (a) there's no official support for the current, alpha test version of Kunena 1.5.0a and (b) there's no endorsed "rollback" method.
But, is what we've been discussing really a disaster? Are these problems affecting a live production site with other users? Would it be too much heartache to have to start all over or could you live with the problems - perhaps in the knowledge that they may never be solved?
For a bit of comfort, have a look at the "Downgrade" discussion. The solution in that discussion was to uninstall Kunena and drop all the Kunena-related SQL tables. At worst it leaves the rest of your website intact.
Cheers
