Question Kunena Discuss: Can not make it work

This is becoming a very broad-ranging subject. It's quite difficult when someone chooses a subject title "cannot make it work" to contain the scope of the topic just to the one thing.

However, I will do my best to persevere and explain (as best I can explain, without the benefit of having a prepared script - i.e. good documentation - to assist me).

If you want to allow the major bulk of your discussions to generate forum topics, by default, in one specific forum category, then you enter the forum category as the default. Then you can create an exception or exceptions to that rule. At some point, I suppose, there might have to be a trade-off between how many exceptions you have and what will be the default.

However, in the example you've given, where you have three categories that you do not want to have discussions, let's call these categories 1, 722 and 4395 (just for the sake of argument).

You should be able to do the following:

[Edit] Kunena Discuss plugin
» Parameters » Plugin Parameters » Denied Content Categories = 1,722,4395

I asked you earlier to provide us with a screenshot of your Kunena Discuss configuration. Did you read the sticky topics in this category before you asked your question? In particular, have you seen Instructions for Kunena Discuss plugin ?

6 categories, 3 forums. I understand how it would work with the Default. But putting the number of forums aside, I can't get a top level category to apply Discuss to every sub-category, which was my original question.

not working configuration

And apologies for piggybacking the other thread - thought it was a similar problem. I did start my own when this one looked like it was being resolved.

This is my suggestion:

(I don't know the content categories of the categories where you do not want to enable discussions, so I just made up three random numbers).

If this does not work, please let us know.

No, it's not working because the denied categories have to be sub-categories, not top-level categories. I guess there's a simple question:

Can a top-level category transfer its settings on to its sub-categories?

Good question. I must admit that I haven't really sunk my teeth into J! 2.5 content sub-categories and I can't understand why there should be some kind of problem here. I will pass this matter along to my colleagues for their assessment. Please be patient; it may take a while for an answer.

Thinking about it, we're moving over from Jomcomment where you also select articles that can be discussed at a sub-category level (albeit from a category title selection list rather than article ID) not than the top-level category. So perhaps that's just the way it is in the crazy world of article commenting.

If this is the case, perhaps it's worth saying the hover/instructions something like "the category selected should contains articles and not sub-categories".

So it looks like a bit of work at set-up then an addition when a new sub-category is added. Have to say it'll be worth the effort - it's a great plugin and my colleagues were loving it (although probably not the one who gets given the mapping task).

Thanks for your time.
