Question 1.5.12 -> 1.6.1 upgrade - post function only shows blank page

What we do know:

* the error happens only in a form where you can post a new message

That allows someone who is skilled in PHP to turn off pieces of our code and to watch what effect it has.

Unfortunately you can do it only from ftp/ssh..

OK. Update #2. Looks like its a little more interesting than what I had expected.

It looks like this might have something to do with the Smiles/emotions that I had installed on the forum. I had brought a bunch from our old PHPBB smiles from some old forums and imported them into Kunena. When I delete all the smiles from the forum and re-enable SEF, I can post again.

I'm going to restore the forum back to 1.5.14, delete the emotions and apply the upgrade again and see what happens.

Great to get some sense to this issue. Maybe you have changed something that breaks Kunena 1.6?

Well, this issue has been identified and resolved for me. I'm not sure what the underlying reason for failure is, but I know why.

Emotions

For some reason, I had more than 600 emotion loaded on my forum (Yikes, I know...) Most of them imported from an old PHPBB installation.

So, here is what I did: restored my dev system back to 1.5.12. Deleted all smiles/emotions that were non-standard. uninstalled my old Kunena modules. Installed 1.6.4 (com_kunena_v1.6.4_b4832_2011-05-07). posting worked 100%.

There seems to be some residual effects - the issue I have remaining is that my emotions are showing up as text instead of graphics. I'll be looking into that next.
