OK. I've tried a few different things at this point and I'm still stuck at the same position. Blank page on posts and replies.

upgrade from 1.5.12 -> v1.6.4_b4832_2011-05-07 - post = blank page
I upgrade to 1.5.12 -> 1.5.14 - tested successful - post function worked fine
upgrade 1.5.14 -> v1.6.4_b4832_2011-05-07 - post = blank page

I've gone through the troubleshooting procedures described in the "How_to_diagnose_blank_page_on_kunena" pages. I've enabled all debugging levels - nothing interesting shows up in any error logs!

I've uninstalled every old kunena & 3rd party Kunena module/plugin/component. I have the "mootools upgrade" enabled. I have tried the default template. I've turned off all caching. I've turned off and on all SEO stuff. I've turned off gzip compression.

so far nothing changes the fact that I get a blank page if I try to use the post/reply function.

Do you see white page when you should see the form or when you try to post the message?

I get the blank page when posting or replying to a message. All other functions work fine. I can read messages, look through the forums, but any function that calls the post function is not working.

I can do a quick reply... but no reply, no edit, no new post, no quote...

So the error happens when you should type your message (= reply topic form), but the actual posting (quick reply) works just fine..

It almost sounds like you have conflict between Kunena and template/plugin/module..

In Kunena 1.6.4 you should see a blue box if there's fatal error in Kunena. So the error happens outside of Kunena. Have you looked at your server logs?

Yes. I've turned on every bit of logging, and I nothing is giving me an error to investigate. I've tried the default Joomla template. I can switch off more modules. I'll turn them off one at a time and see if anything makes it work.

found it!

System - SEF

When its enabled, I get a blank screen - just on the post functions. when its disabled. everything works OK. Looks like I'll close this issue and start my investigation there.

Thanks
