Thanks, TKtemp.

I don't want to migrate the whole site, just the forum. Can that be done, and if so, what tool would one use for that?

Ideally what I would like to do is have the Joomla 2.5 site created from scratch and then "import" if you will, the existing forum and it's content and users.

Yeah, I understand that.

Users are managed by Joomla and not by Kunena, so before migration of Kunena you need to have already working Joomla 2.5 site with all users imported from your Joomla 1.5 site.
Also, imported users in your new site must have the same user-id as in your old joomla site.
Teorically you should do in this way:

1. Migrate Joomla 1.5 to Joomla 2.5 with all users
Look at JED for some component which can do this. Some of that components can migrate only users and it is what you want. Users must take the same id in both sites.

2. When you are sure that all works well you can start to migrate Kunena, Go to your Hosting Control Panel and find tool phpMyAdmin and login to your database (old J1.5) and EXPORT all tables #_kunena_xxxxxx

3. Install new Kunena 2.0.4 on your Joomla 2.5 site and check if all works well

4. With tool phpMyAdmin IMPORT all data from exported files to new kunena tables

All this work should be done first on your test site to be sure that all works well

Thanks again, TKtemp,

Makes sense, that I would need to export/import the users first. I am just learning as I go here, so your insight is very helpful.

I am still in the researching/searching stage but have found an extension that sounds like it may be just what I am looking for - Userport - to migrate the users only from Joomla 1.5 to 2.5. As you suggested, I will make sure this bit is successful first before attempting the migration of our Kunena forum.

Thanks again.

Jax

Hi,

I have a forum on a site running Joomla 2.5 and would like to move it to a new site running Joomla 3.0.1.

The new site will replace the old one as soon as the forum migration finish.
I have the same latest version of Kunena running on both. (emptu on the new one)

How do I migrate the entire data, users, threads...? Can I simply move databases tables?

Thanks,
Yoni

This question has been asked a lot on this forum. There must be a dozen topics on this forum that will help you. Searching the forum is a good place to start to find the answers that you are looking for.

Thanks for your answer.
I started by searching but looks like there's no official process for such migration. Also, found many different unofficial processes that works for some while for other not.

I understand that I need to export and import all Kunena tables. What about the forum users? They are actually Joomla users.

Any other data items that I should consider?

Thanks
