I've found a bug which causes this, but have not yet made a fix for it.

I have an apology to make: I owe mibert an apology because I didn't understand in what way the quick reply button didn't "work". I owe mibert an apology because, in other discussions we've had, I suspected that Joomla 1.0.15 might responsible his sudden rush of K 1.0.10 problems and could be involved in this one, too. But I particularly owe him an apology because I assumed that, because the "quick reply" function works at www.kunena.com , there was no need for me to test the situation on my own K 1.0.10 test site! Fatal mistake! As I have often said "ASSUME makes an ASS out of U and ME" ... and I feel such an ass at the moment!

One of the things we often do is that put our faith in other people's "say so". For example, "it works at www.kunena.com so it must work everywhere." However, in many ways www.kunena.com is set up very differently to our websites (even though I've done my best to make the least number of changes to the standard Joomla "configuration") because we all do things a little differently.

The biggest single difference at www.kunena.com and my website(s) is the absence of Community Builder. Big difference; big consequences! Another difference is how we view these websites: I use Internet Explorer V7; many people don't. Too often we take certain things for granted.

Guess what? The quick reply button didn't work on my K 1.0.10 test site either (using J! 1.5.7)

At the moment I've spent the last two weeks (since K 1.0.10 was released) testing everything - every little thing - to make sure that when I upgrade my live production site I won't have my users say "I can't use the 'quick reply' button" (or the search function ... or some other function). I'm testing these things more thoroughly than with earlier versions - not that there are more problems with K 1.0.10 (which there aren't) - because the problems that have been discovered in K 1.0.10 are more fundamental and will greater impact on my users than in previous versions. My general impression is that K 1.0.10 works and that I've only found four things that broke because of the upgrade.

Remembering that K 1.0.10 was intended to be the last release before concentrating development on the K 1.5.x variant, it is essential that no new problems should be introduced in this version. Unfortunately (for me), K 1.0.10 contained several new features  and this has complicated my regression test timetable.

Matias' fix for the "quick reply" fault is presented here . It works. I don't know if the fix is required if you don't have Community Builder installed; I suspect that it's not needed if you don't.

Cheers :)

Beat, over at Joomlapolis, just responded to my post ther about this problem. He told me to check that in CB configuration -> profile -> XHTML compliant is turned ON. I checked. It was off. When I set it to on, both the Quick Reply and the Auto-Return to post started working again.

That's very interesting, ubarose!

Allow me to tell you of my experience - let's compare notes: Internet Explorer V 7, Kunena 1.0.10, Community Builder 1.2.1, Joomla 1.5.7, Components » Community Builder » Configuration » User Profile setting W3C XHTML 1.0 Trans. compliance = "Yes"

In my case the quick reply button was disabled (as reported here by mibert); after editing the file ../components/com_kunena/kunena.php and changing line 254 the quick reply button was enabled. :woohoo:

This is very strange! In your case, changing your XHTML setting to the same as mine changed the behaviour of the quick reply button even though it didn't work for me (until I changed kunena.php)?! I think there's something else involved. I also see, in your discussion at Joomlapolis that, in your case, Joomla 1.0.15 was involved!

I realise and appreciate - from what Matias has written elsewhere - that Kunena 1.0.10 can work on a Joomla 1.0.15 base but, as I wrote in my apology a couple of postings ago, you can't be 100% certain until you've tested it yourself on your own site. Maybe, just maybe, Joomla 1.0.15 is still a common factor in several problems that have been reported here. Or maybe it's Community Builder ... or both CB and J! 1.0.15??

Replied by mibert on topic Never mind
Hi Sozzled,

never mind. Its OK and I did not take it personal.
Main point is that the problem has been fixed. Many eyes can see more than just two and thats the meaning of an open source project.

Now my only remaining issue with KN1.0.10 is, that the read/unread marking in the listcat view does not work properly. It shows unread posts in categories, where all posts are read. Also the function "mark all forums as read" does not solve this.

Any idea for this matter?

Best regards

Michael
