Question Moderator Emails sent to every user

My answers to your questions:
1. You know that a notification of a new message was sent to all users how: have you asked all your users to confirm this?
Answer:
The forum is brand new. There is only 1 post in the forum so far by 2 users. I went ahead and I posted a brand new entry in the forum asking everyone to please forward it to me. I instantly received 8 email forwards. Granted, the total number of active users is over 80, so my statement that it's "everyone" is probably wrong. But it is definitely going out to too many.
2. How do you know that the e-mails are "moderator" notifications and not "subscribed topic" notifications? I haven't done the testing myself to compare the two, so I wouldn't know how to tell the difference.
Answer:
Easy... the email that these users received begins with "A new post has been made to a forum to which you have assigned as MODERATOR on the PM PrepCast Forum". So I am 100% certain that it has to do with the forum admin function.
3. Are your users subscribed to those forums they're receiving e-mail notifications about?]
Answer:
I don't know but I seriously doubt it. Each forum is by product that we sell. One user who received the emails did not purchase that particular product. So I doubt that she subscribed to it. And again... the opening sentence of the emails sent suggests otherwise.
I do have the "Post-subscription" checked. The reason is that these are support forums and I want people to receive an email with our response as soon as we post our response for them.
Oh... I do have 1.0.8 and will update to 1.0.9 - but that recommendation did indeed sound like I'm conversing with Microsoft...
Thanks!

No offense taken though.
Thanks!

I guess, you don't understand this recommendation. The Kunena DEVs had to fix a lot of bugs from fireboard, and still in 1.0.8 were bugs, but they fixed a lot of them with 1.0.9, so that your problem could be solved with the update. No, it is not Microsoft, it is OpenSource.

I'm glad we established a solid footing on the nature of the problem. On the basis of your answers, this is the diagnostic track that I'd pursue if I were in your place.
- Examine each user's record in the Kunena User Administration facility. You can see which users are assigned as moderators - maybe you have people inadvertently assigned to moderate forums that you hadn't intended? You can also see which discussion threads people are subscribed to. If you detect a pattern whereby the majority of users are subscribing to many forums, this might indicate that you'd be better off by disabling the "Post-subscription checked by default" option as I suggested in my earlier reply.
- I would suggest you look at the configuration options you've implemented for each of the forums that users are "moderating" - see, again, docs.kunena.com/index.php/Configuration#...nfiguration_settings
Let's eliminate the possibility that you have users who are allocated moderator privileges that you don't want them to have. Let's eliminate the possibility that your users are "over subscribing" to discussion topics. Let's also eliminate the possibility that your Kunena parameters are giving you grief. If these causes are not discounted now they will continue to be involved when you update to Kunena 1.0.9 later.
Lastly, and I hope you won't mind me offering my observations about how you're conducting your testing régime, do you think it's wise setting up a test system with 80 users and drawing conclusions based on the lack of success with only two forum messages? Testing is a painstakingly rigorous exercise that will involve a certain risk of inconveniencing your users when things don't work. The trick is to contain that risk by choosing users who are prepared to be inconvenienced and who won't draw a negative preconceptions about the project based on a poor showing during the test phase.
Even though I did not experience any of the problems you've referred to with Kunena 1.0.8, and it serves no purpose asking why you chose that version in the first place, I agree that upgrading to Kunena 1.0.9 is a sensible strategic way to go.
BTW: I totally get your reference to Microsoft. Yeah, it must've seemed like that, eh?

I installed 1.0.8 because that was the version available when I originally set up the site some time ago. Never came back to look for an upgrade.
My next step will definitely be to upgrade to 1.0.9 (however... am I blind? because I can't seem to find upgrade instruction...)
Anyway. In regards to the testing regime... I completely understand. I'm in software development myself. But you know how it is... the cobbler's children have no shoes and my websites get tested only superficially. There are a lot more fun things in life than to test websites...
Testing whether I had the wrong users assigned as moderators was one of the first things I did. No luck. Only me and my assistant are moderators. I also checked if my users happened to be Joomla super admins but no luck there either.
So I'd say we call this a day for now and we'll see what happens after we update the site to 1.0.9 - as soon as I locate the instructions, that is...

Good for you, mate
You might find the following information helpful w.r.t. upgrading: docs.kunena.com/index.php/Upgrade_Instructions .
BTW, if you've made no customised changes to your Kunena installation, it took me a massive 5 minutes to upgrade. All your Kunena configuration parameters, your forum messages, etc. are preserved intact.
Cheers
