Perhaps, one day, someone may make the time to write some explanation about How RSS feeds work in general. In general terms, if something can be seen at a website without needing to login to the website, then the website can probably display that "something" with an RSS feed. It is the same with indexing site content at a search engine provider like Google; content that can be seen without logging in to the site can be indexed by Google but content that cannot be seen unless you are logged in to the site cannot be indexed.

The RSS feed generator does not login. It cannot login because there is nothing to tell it how to login.

That's the essential "explanation".

The reason why this topic took so long to resolve was how it began.

The fact is that the "problem" was there all the time. The "problem" did not magically appear as the result of upgrading from K 3.0.3 to K 3.0.4. The point that I want to make to other people reading this topic is that we are very confident, after seeing hundreds of successful upgrades from K 3.0.3 to K 3.0.4, that the upgrade procedure is not responsible for introducing new problems.
