Kunena 7.0.5 & Kunena 6.4.11 – Security Updates Released

The Kunena team has announce the arrival of Kunena 7.0.5 [K 7.0.5] in stable which is now available for download as a native Joomla extension for J! 5.4.x/6.0.x. This version addresses most of the issues that were discovered in K 6.2 / K 6.3 / K 6.4 and issues discovered during the last development stages of K 7.0.

The Kunena team is also pleased to announce the eleventh version of Kunena 6.4, a native Joomla extension for Joomla! 5.0, 5.1, 5.2, 5.3, 5.4 and 6.0.

If you are having problems then, for your own benefit, it would save us all a lot of time if you would kindly post your configuration report when you ask for help from this forum. If you do not post your configuration report we will not ask you for it but you will probably not get your problem solved, either.

K 2.0 support will cease on 31 August 2013 and this section of the forum will be closed and archived after that time and no further questions will be answered about this version.

Sozzled, I did check with my hosting company on the magical quotes and they said they heard of a situation where this was a factor and they showed me 3 places in the PHP.ini doc where there were some settings that could be turned on or off with this.

So far my experimentation has not produced anything definitive but I can say for sure that starting sentences or paragraphs with a contraction like "I'm" will predictably trigger the error message. What do you recommend as the next step?

I believe it's necessary to test that hypothesis with the creation of a test site on your webhost in the way I have been advising you to do over the past many months, namely, a site build on a clean version of Joomla, a clean version of Kunena and ... nothing else.

I'm happy to report that my "apostrophe" problem with forum posts has been solved. A highly skilled Joomla consultant tracked it down to the edit_editor.php file connected to one of the templates.

Since it took him considerable time to locate it and fix it, he has requested that his solution not be posted here or given away. I appreciate and respect that.

There has been a similar theme re a template related file in a thread on the preview window.

Back a few months ago, I said these problems are so similar, they may in fact be the same. At the time, I felt like my comment was dismissed. Now it appears that I was right on track.

My consultant has told me that I will need to use this customized file with future versions of Kunena unless at some point the official one resolves this issue by itself.

Anyways, I'm thrilled that this issue is finally resolved and that my users and I can post all the "I'm"s and "Don't"s we like.

What template are we discussing: a Kunena template or a Joomla template? It's important that we understand what we're discussing here. There is no file edit_editor.php installed by Kunena or referenced (as far as I can tell) by K 2.0. This looks to me like a case of My Joomla site template makes a mess of Kunena .

I am pleased that you have found a solution but I should like to confirm that the issue has its origins in a choice that you made rather than in a defect in the Kunena software.

I am not making any claim of a fault with Kunena. My consultant said that it was a matter of how the Kunena files interacted with my site that caused the issue.

He did not say there were any bugs in Kunena. He did mention the one Kunena template that he focused on but I don't remember the name. I'll check on this and post it here.

I'm planning to revamp my home page and main site template pretty soon and may also be switching hosting companies because I'm finding that my site has other issues with the host I'm using. So these changes may also impact the editor apostrophe problem too. I'll post developments soon!

Of course it would be wonderful if there was a one-size-fits-all approach but, given the vagaries of Joomla, differences in PHP implementations by different web hosting companies, differences in the webhosting software itself, MySQL, choices that people make and so on and so forth, a one-size-fits-all solution to every situation is unattainable given the limited expertise available within the Kunena team. Not impossible; just not attainable.

Good luck with your forward plans. :)

Although it's difficult to confirm that the problems you've had with losing data when you (and your users) have posted messages on your forum are related to the problems involving "message preview", it may be of some reassurance to note that the team has made steady, overall progress towards resolving many of those "message preview" problems.

You should note that after the release of K 2.0.4 (which addresses several issues we've discussed in this topic) the project does not intend to address any further matters involving K 2.0. This is to allow the team to focus solely on K 3.0.
