Kunena 7.0.5 & Kunena 6.4.11 – Security Updates Released

The Kunena team has announce the arrival of Kunena 7.0.5 [K 7.0.5] in stable which is now available for download as a native Joomla extension for J! 5.4.x/6.0.x. This version addresses most of the issues that were discovered in K 6.2 / K 6.3 / K 6.4 and issues discovered during the last development stages of K 7.0.

The Kunena team is also pleased to announce the eleventh version of Kunena 6.4, a native Joomla extension for Joomla! 5.0, 5.1, 5.2, 5.3, 5.4 and 6.0.

If you are having problems then, for your own benefit, it would save us all a lot of time if you would kindly post your configuration report when you ask for help from this forum. If you do not post your configuration report we will not ask you for it but you will probably not get your problem solved, either.

K 2.0 support will cease on 31 August 2013 and this section of the forum will be closed and archived after that time and no further questions will be answered about this version.

An old problem that I observed occasionally with K1.7.2 has resurfaced. It pertains to the simple process of saving a post and editing a post. Here's an example of my experience.

Today I attempted to reply to a user's post. The Preview only showed a portion of my post. I clicked the preview button a few times but I still saw only a small part of my post.

Then I clicked on submit and only this small part of my post was saved. I then attempted to edit the post and add the remaining text but it would only continue saving that small first segment.

Then after continuing to repeat this process of editing and saving I received the error message:

Cannot save message: Message body is empty!

This same pattern showed up near the very end of K1.7.2. I didn't bother reporting it here because I figured that whatever it was, it would likely get fixed with K2.0. It did go away for a while and now the problem is back.

I tested this to see whether it was specific to one topic but it is not. The pattern showed up in other topics. Yet it was also not consistent. On one occasion when I copied and pasted one sentence over and over into a message I was able to submit it and have it save.

Many of my users are posting substantial messages apparently with no problem but I do recall having at least one user who reported this exact problem with K1.7.2 so it is not only me.

This is obviously a major issue preventing my forum from functioning so I'd appreciate it if a high priority can be placed on getting this figured out.

If this pattern is not showing up anywhere on other installations of Kunena, I'm willing to entertain the possibility that this issue is a result of something specific on my website. I will post my Kunena configuration immediately after this post.

To Further clarify the issue of posting and saving in this thread, here is a more detailed description of what is happening.

With some specific blocks of text, pasting it into a message box and clicking on preview, I see only the first portion of the message appear.

If I attempt to break it down into smaller segments of text, some portions will appear in the preview window and others will not. Then, when I type the words one by one I reach a point where suddenly the entire preview box goes blank as if the word I typed somehow wiped everything out.

This explains why I sometimes get the error message "Cannot save message: Message body is empty" because Kunena actually believes that it is blank.

I can type many other things and save with no problem. I can even copy/paste a large block of text and save with no problem but for some reason certain specific words or phrases or codes cause Kunena to go crazy.

It is hard to imagine what could cause this to happen. I am in the process of having my Joomla consultant test this himself. If it saves normally in a Kunena message box, then the only logical conclusion would be that there is some issue with my browser interface.

I tried to clean the text to make sure that there were no strange embedded characters and I also tried to remove the color codes but this did not change anything.

I'm naturally open to any other form of troubleshooting on this issue.

For several months now going all the way back to Kunena 1.7.2, I've been plagued with the most frustrating problem when posting a simple text post:

Cannot save message: Message body is empty!

I've done everything imaginable to diagnose the cause including hiring Joomla experts who have devoted dozens of hours trying to resolve this. To no avail. It still exists.

My request here is simple. If there is ANYONE who has experienced this problem and hopefully resolved it, PLEASE tell me what it is or at least help point me to where I might find a solution.

This is totally crazy making for me and my users.
