Replied by lorem on topic Subscriptions to Topic
Hi there,

I've got a question concerning the subscriptions:
I'm using Kunena for a school website. Unfortunately the students don't log on as often as I'd like to have it. It's very important that they stay informed about certain topics. For that reason I thought it would be be best to assign subscriptions to their accounts. Now my question: Is it possible to do that from the backend or do I have to login as every single student and do the subscriptions manually?

Thank you

Yours

Lorem

I am in dire need of a solution to help automate the subscrition of joomla groups into specific board topics or categories. This is because we need those users to be notified everytime there is an update for the boards they are part of, based on Joomla ACL/groups. These users rarely visit the board because they claim that they are not aware of new posts. We have informed them how to self-subscribe but none of them have done so yet, partly because they are "non-technical folks". They have mostly requested that we manually email them whenever new topics are posted. This has become a rather laborous admin process.

I have scanned through the forum here to see if there are any solutions. The closest I have come across is a post in the link below. Unfortunately the solution mentioned there was only applicable to Kunena 2.0. We are using the latest Kunena version (3.0). Any help will be appreciated.

I would have posted this topic to the thread referenced below, but the thread is archived and does not allow any new replies.

many thanks for anticipated help.

I have sympathy for you but the situation, as I understand it, is that there is nothing that does this automatic subscription for you based on Joomla ACL grouping. Indeed, there is nothing available that is designed, developed, maintained, supported or endorsed by the Kunena project that does this for you, either.

If your need is indeed as dire as you claim that it is,and if all other avenues of asking your users to subscribe to categories have failed, and if, indeed, your users are ignorant, nontechnical, hopeless cases, then there are ways that you can force automatic subscriptions upon your user community ... for a price, of course. These are questions for you to consider. If you are willing to pay whatever cost is involved then we may be able to assist you further. In the meantime, you have my sympathy.

When users send a message in a forum, the system will automatically send an email to the Others or do I have to set it up?

G'day, pierini, and welcome to Kunena.

We have received questions like yours many times in this forum and I have merged your question here, in this topic, so that you can read how we have tried to answer it.

The way for members of your community to go about receiving email notifications of new messages on your forum is for your members to subscribe to the categories in your forum. I hope that, when you posted your question here, on this forum, you clicked the "check this box to be notified of replies to this topic" checkbox so that you receive notification of the reply I have written here.

In the same way, your community members can subscribe to, or unsubscribe themselves from, topics or categories in your forum. I hope this helps. :)
