Kunena 7.0.5 & Kunena 6.4.11 – Security Updates Released

The Kunena team has announce the arrival of Kunena 7.0.5 [K 7.0.5] in stable which is now available for download as a native Joomla extension for J! 5.4.x/6.0.x. This version addresses most of the issues that were discovered in K 6.2 / K 6.3 / K 6.4 and issues discovered during the last development stages of K 7.0.

The Kunena team is also pleased to announce the eleventh version of Kunena 6.4, a native Joomla extension for Joomla! 5.0, 5.1, 5.2, 5.3, 5.4 and 6.0.

This category contains miscellaneous, uncategorised user contributions, (templates, modules, plugins and hacks) relating to older versions of Kunena that are no longer supported.

This category may also contain a few topics relating to K 1.6 that may have been moved here possibly by mistake.

The topics in this category are for historical interest only. Owing to the structural differences between K 1.6 and K 1.7, these ideas in these topics will not work with later versions and, for that reason, the topics are locked.

Thanks a bunch for your time. I really don't know a whole lot about joomla, I've just done a couple of others with it.

It is a clean site, the domain's old but the install is new and there have been no installations outside of the default package for joomla, other than the template files and kunena.

If I'm allowed pm's I'll try to send you the url so you can have a look.

Thanks again!

I'll see what I can do, but I can't promise anything. I'm just your average everyday Joomla user, mate

I have my suspicions, though, from what you've written, that you've misconfigured your Joomla SEO. Please look at Search engine optimization recommendations. This business of attempting to add .html suffixes to your URL could be a problem, particularly if your .htaccess file isn't properly setup to handle them.

I would also strongly urge you to use the Kunena default_ex template and images!!

The .htaccess file is fine and all of the rewritten url's resolve as they should, as well as their associated images, formatting so I don't see how that could be the issue. I will try removing the suffix from the urls and report back.

Why do you suggest using default_ex template? I'm using the default_gray because it most looked like the rest of my site and then just went in and modified the css file to clean up the colors a bit.

EDIT: Tried removing the suffix from the url's and it had no impact on the redirect on login and log out... still redirected to the default page for the Joomla application.

I didn't "suggest" using the default_ex template because I think it looks better.

See the following items (a small sample) written by one of the Kunena developers: My point is, work on the templates included in the Kunena installation kit has mainly been concentrated on the default and default_ex ones. The other templates have had serious problems with them that go all the way back to the days of Fireboard; they were as unsupported then as they are today. The whole templating system is intended to be thoroughly overhauled in a future version of Kunena - it can't come soon enough - but, until then, you're advised to stay clear of unsupported template systems. Obviously it would be better if the default_gray, default_green and default_red templates weren't shipped with K 1.0.10 and/or K 1.5.x but they were and that's their legacy. In a nutshell, those templates are unreliable!

I suspect the default_gray template causes more than just your login redirection problem (which I cannot reproduce the symptoms of because you haven't provided me with a test user account). Look at the "Powered by Kunena" link at the bottom of your forum pages. Most of those do not take you to the credits page. Why is that? There will be other functions that operate oddly too.

That's outstanding information... thanks! I'll work on the css file for the for that template and then maybe try to integrate the stuff that looks better in the default_ex into the overall Joomla template.

Thanks again!

Before you invest hours of effort into customising the CSS for the default_ex template, wouldn't it be a good idea to see if the "vanilla-flavoured", unchanged default_ex version works? :S

You wrote earlier that you don't know a lot about Joomla - that's OK, we were all beginners once (and I'm not too sure I know a lot more than you do, anyway! I'm rather surprised that this message was categorised under the "Hacks" category and not "Support"! Something for one of the moderators to look into, perhaps?

One of the first things to do, whenever you are diagnosing any problem, is "return to basics". Easier said than done! ;) In terms of Kunena, if you make changes to the configuration settings, restore them back to their original values. Kunena should function perfectly well without making any change, whatsoever, to the original settings. The original Kunena configuration settings are shown in a Wiki article: Kunena Configuration .

Awaiting your confirmation that all of your problems have been fixed, please.
