Thou i would love to solve the problem..
maybe you will figure it out something, last week i have migrated the site to new server, the old one was using cpanel and php 5.2.9. The new server was configured from zero, it's a centos vps server with webmin, it has php 5.2.17 and mysql 5.0.77. After the migration i got lot's of:
like hundreds of them, but i've covered them all by disabling the error reporting, so the site was working fine this whole week. Meanwhile i have installed several modules and plugins and everything went smooth, so today with Kunena i have the first issue.
Can you think of something that perhaps should be added on the server which is preventing the upgrade of kunena?

I don't know where this come from :
If you want stop installation process, delete everything which are in /tmp folder
Code:

There is nothing in the /tmp folder... some thumbnails, but nothing else, perhaps thats the problem?

Because you have started k1.6.3 process, some files has been changed, so just launch the installation of k1.6.2
