I just noticed something interesting from your config setting - could be a red herring, maybe not. Please read the article Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) in the Wki. It will help. B)

My earlier message about "securing Kunena" should have been sufficient as far as folder and file permissions are concerned. All files/folders should be owned by you or by Apache:Apache (check with your hosting company), all folder permissions should be identical and all file permissions should be identical. The article contains the relevant information.

You did not follow the recommendations in Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) . They are:
  1. .htaccess file exits: this seems to now be the case;
  2. Joomla SEF enaabled: this is true in your case; and
  3. Joomla SEF rewrite enabled: this is false in your case

You might also consider the setting:

Forum configuration » Frontend » Look and Feel » Show Avatar on Categoriy Index and Recent Topic = Yes

I have a very simple theory about why people have so many different problems with avatar images. Basically, as I have written consistently in this forum for the past nearly 4 years, Kunena works immediately, straight out of the box without making any changes to the configuration settings. If it doesn't work, in a totally brand-new Joomla website (without other extensions added, I mean) then something is wrong with the Joomla setup. If, after adding 50 other extensions, Kunena doesn't work, then the problem is most likely to be caused by one or more of the 50 other extensions ... and that's what keeps me "in business" answering all these questions on the forum. ;)

Fortunately, in K 1.7.2, there is the "reset to factory settings" button which is kind of like a last-resort. It's located on [the top right corner of] the Forum Configuration facility in your backend. It may be something you would like to consider using.

The reason that you cannot upload avatar has several possible explanations
(1) Your Kunena configuration settings do not allow user avatar image uploads;
(2) Your Kunena configuration settings do not allow user avatar images over a certain size;
(3) Trying to be too "clever" in creating your own Joomla/Kunena menu and getting into a hopeless routing tangle
(4) You do not have write access to one or more of the folders on your site;
(5) There is a Javascript library conflict (caused by another Joomla extension) that prevents the file open dialog from activating properly;
(7) There is another Joomla extension interfering with the operation of Kunena

Those are the lines of investigation one must examine and, one by one, eliminate as contenders for the "problem of the month" prize-winner.

As another aside, your Joomla site template has "fuzzy"/blurred text headings (another common trait of many of the Rockettheme templates) that a lot of people report as "errors" in this forum - see [Resolved] [Merged topic] Blurred, blurry, fuzzy, text in category headers (text-shadow)

Thanks sozzle - hopefully this will help... not sure if you are still wanting to engage in this post...

1. .htaccess file exits: this seems to now be the case;
2. Joomla SEF enaabled: this is true in your case; and
3. Joomla SEF rewrite enabled: this is false in your case

I did enable SEF rewrite perhaps since posting - I got that error... thank you for pointing that out.
I also did try the restore to default settings... unfortunately that did not seem to change any of the concerns I have, I realize you come across many things that are easy solutions

Forum configuration » Frontend » Look and Feel » Show Avatar on Categoriy Index and Recent Topic = Yes

This has been set to Yes already.

The reason that you cannot upload avatar has several possible explanations
(1) Your Kunena configuration settings do not allow user avatar image uploads;
(2) Your Kunena configuration settings do not allow user avatar images over a certain size;
(3) Trying to be too "clever" in creating your own Joomla/Kunena menu and getting into a hopeless routing tangle

(7) There is another Joomla extension interfering with the operation of Kunena

Addressing the items above:
1. this is set to yes
2. this is still the defaul 2048kb
3. the menu used is 'out of the box'
4. I checked permissions and as it is recommended all directories are 755 and files are 644
5. I dont even have an option to load a file... it just doesnt exist. When I look at the profile for a registered user - the 'Edit' text is not clickable
7. I can certainly un-enable each extension and will do so to rule things out... will get back on that...

As another aside, your Joomla site template has "fuzzy"/blurred text headings

I will also review this issue and report back.

Maybe this will help? I have checked the site configurations as well and confirmed that images are uploadable according to Joomla...

Actually, that's not quite true in your case. You have a second Joomla menu on your home page. See Customised menus in the Wiki for help on how to set one up properly. If these are not properly setup (and if they conflict with one another) they can cause problems like you have.
