This has also been a problem when people migrated from J! 1.5 to J! 2.5 (or even to J! 3.2) and the discussion on that subject is in

As a general point, migrating from J! 1.5 to the latest supported versions of Joomla is not always easy. J! 1.5 did not know anything about ACLs - this security feature was added in J! 1.6 - and complications may arise as a consequence. This forum to help people who have problems running
Kunena, yes, but migrating from one version of Joomla to another one (and what is the best way to go about it) is slightly outside the main focus of our attention. That's why there are hundreds of people who make a lot of money offering to do this kind of work for those who do not have the time or the skill to do it for themselves.
Sometimes there are issues involving Joomla security/ACL (remember,
Kunena uses standard Joomla security/ACL) that happen because there are complications or "bad" data stored in the database. These kinds of things do cause headaches and take time to analyse the root cause. Sometimes there is not simple quick fix (because the fix requires expertise about how databases work) and not everyone has the know-how to do this themselves. I know from experience - when I've migrated old J! 1.5 sites to the latest versions of Joomla -it can take hours (or days) to do the job properly.
We will do our best to try to help you but we cannot guarantee that we will resolve every problem in every case. I run a private business that helps people who want to update their websites (including upgrading
Kunena or migrating Joomla) - and I charge on a per-hour basis - but there's a limit even to what I can do.
