You need to set inherit child objects to yes :) When you create the forum there will be a "inheret" option below. Set both to yes and try again....

I think thats what you mean

J1.5.15 and K1.5x do not yet support ACLs ( access control lists ) and that is what you are going to need for what you are trying to do but in J1.6 and K2.0 (long way off) ACLs will be added so that restrictions can be better added to who can see and access each catagory of the forum, this includes guest accounts and bein able to only view topics but not able to start their own or reply to a current topic.

If I set a category only for registered player the unregistered can't see the category. I want, as all other board for Joomla: that an unregistered player can see the category but can't go inside.

Now this is where I have to completely disagree with the writer's premise because the idea violates the first law of security: The best way to keep a secret is to not tell anyone that you're keeping something secret.

Let me put it to you another way. Suppose the Government of your country had secret plans to invade another country. Now, even though all governments have secret plans to invade other countries and every country in the world would love to get their hands on the secret plans that others have, there's not much incentive for foreign countries to send in their spies to discover these secret plans, is there? But, suppose someone discovered a locked filing cabinet drawer that was marked "Secret plans to invade other countries"? This would be like a red rag to a bull - people would be trying their hardest to find a way to unlock the filing cabinet so that they could get their hands on the "secret" contents.

The same is true for private categories. We all know that most discussion boards have categories that are reserved for "special discussions", don't we? But we don't advertise their existence to casual passers-by, do we?

I am not aware of a single Joomla forum, or any forum that has any credible self-respect, that "advertises" the existence of private areas but does not permit access to them. This kind of feature is not only counter-intuitive, it goes against every principle of basic security.

Kunena allows you to have private categories. Private categories are not displayed to users who have no access to them. That's the way it works and, in my opinion, that's the way that it should work and that's the way that all other, reputable and respectable discussion boards operate, too. B)

You stated, earlier in this topic, that you want unregistered users (i.e. everyone who is not logged-in) to be able to see the topics listed in the categories in your discussion board. But, even though everyone can see the topics, you don't want them to be able to view the contents unless they login to your site. You only want registered users to be able to view the contents of the topics. OK, I understand that and, as I wrote earlier, that's an invitation for trouble.

Now you are claiming that this isn't what you want: only registered users should be able to see the list of topics and to view the contents. Yes, I understand that and the answer is easy; Kunena already has a setting to do that. Use Registered Users Only = Yes. Problem solved. B)
