When a user wants to subscribe to Kunena forum the site shows two login modules, the core Joomla and the Kunena one, I just can't seem to hide one or the other but there must be a way around this, can you help? THANKS

Here is an edited picture of your website, Alistair. The login part on the left is created by the standard Joomla login module. The login part in the centre is created because you've disallowed public viewing of your forum. Which login part to you want to remove from this page?

We haven't disallowed public viewing of Kunena, try it yourself and browse through the forum as much as you like, you don't need to sign up to see it, but when you click sign up in Kunena (accedi) the unwanted login module in the centre shows up. Ta

Ah, OK. I see the issue now. Thank you for explaining the problem. When users click Accedi (= Login) they are sent to a page where there are two login forms. This is partly a Kunena problem and partly a web-design problem of yours.

Basically, you have defined the Joomla login module (mod_login) to appear on the page that the "Accedi" link refers to. That is the source of problem.

The problem occurs because of the way Kunena redirects users to the login function you have told it to use. It's complex to explain and the solution isn't easy. I suggest you search for login redirection , not because you will easily find a specific answer, but to give you some ideas.

For example:
  • Is it necessary to put the login module on every page of your website?
  • Maybe you could insert a login form on the Kunena forum instead of the login link?
  • Maybe you could get rid of the login link (inserted by Kunena) completely?
  • Is this something even worth worrying about?
If you look at other websites that use Kunena you may find ideas on how others have tackled the problem you are facing. For instance, here at www.kunena.com , the problem has been solved because Kunena is integrated with JomSocial. I've tackled things differently (see demo.enduring.com.au ) by putting a login form at the top of every page so that, even when users click the link in Kunena, two login forms are widely separated on the screen from one another. In other words, having two login forms is not a big issue for me. Other people have solved things differently. When you decide how you want to play things, let us know.

However, I agree with you. This is one aspect of Kunena that I'm not impressed with and something that generates many requests for a decent solution. I understand that some improvements to this ongoing issue may be expected in K 1.6. :)

Ouch! Honestly I expected it to be of easier solution ;) Thanks for the detailed info, we've read some of the threads and we'll try and see what we can do, the idea is to let the Kunena forum readable to everybody but of course who wants to participate has to sign up, or sign in. The core Joomla login module is more than enough, if we could get rid of the login (and logout-with-the-key-picture-included too) would be great as there is already another section in the website which requires a separete registration. Anyway, thanks!
