Make a decision. 1.0.10 has no new optimizations and if it does it's nothing that will make that much of a difference. What kind of host do you have? Seems very inadequate if you cannot run Kunena on it.

I am happy to change, does anyone recommend a host that will do the trick?

I use Hostmonster. Don't use GoDaddy. Don't know about what's good in your neck of the woods.

Funny you should say Hostmonster, I have an account with them. I was changing back to Australian servers hoping to get a little better speeds but are happy to stay with Hostmonster if its going to work.

I'm pretty happy with sureservers, also they have servers in europe too (no that an australian will care much
)
About your question, no, no further performance boost in 1.0.10, these are done long ago (matias use them on his site), but not yet implemented.

GoDaddy here and very happy.
We run both kunena.com and starVmax.com on the same server. And both sites together generate 5-10% CPU busy on that server. Thats with up to 1.5M page views (w/o bots) per month.
If you say you are consuming too much PHP cpu - what else are you running? I hope you are not running a 3rd party SEF tool. That would be the ultimate php killer. It would look like the forum does it.
If you have any SEF extension, make sure you disable or uninstall it for the forum.
This is a rather common issue. The problem is that they either create a lot of extra queries or consume a ton of memory and CPU for the URL caching.
Hope this helps!
