Hi,

I would like to restrict users access to certain forums. For example, have a forum only open to PR people or Builders. Can this be done?

Cheers,
Sean

Seriously have you searched the forum??

This has been answered a million times and at present this is not possible. The only way to limit access to the forum categories is for different joomla user access levels.

eg You can make a forum category only accessible to Registered users and another for Authors and another for Super Administrators.

You can add your votes to this on UserVoice to support the development of this feature in upcoming releases.

still wish that i can write my forum signature through a jomsocial plugin and do it from my jomsocial profile :(

Google the product JACL for joomla. Its a product we have used on our website for years.

I've tired to restrict access to a forum category only to admin or superadmin, but with no success! See my post here: www.kunena.com/forum?func=view&catid=8&i...mit=10&start=50#7572

How is the solution?

ok, um well i have my forum categories set with the following conditions for Author and above access.

Public Access :Author
Admin Access: Public Backend

So if you want a category to only be viewable only to Super Admins, then set the Public Access to Super Admins.

Setting the Admin Access i assume only allows Admin functions in them. I havent tested it but i assume that if you set this to Manager, then it means only a manager or above gets the admin buttons in it. actually not too sure either what admin access does.

maybe someone else can help on this..

Since FireBoard there has never been a real solution/workaround for this. There was a user provided hack that accomplished this but was never ported to Kunena. Also with 1.5 native being worked fast and furiously I don't think now is the time as you will most likely have to rehack your files if you upgrade and hacking now may render your Kunena install non-upgradable.

I don't know about now but months ago the alternatives were JACL, GroupJive and some others.

We love stars on the Joomla Extension Directory . :-)
