After reading the upgrade instructions, I am somewhat confused. It suggests that you uninstall the old kunena, install the new version, and then uninstall it again and install it for a second time. Surely you only need to install the new version once?

Thanks for a prompt reply

Download the correct package.
Make a copy of your live site.
Uninstall the previous Kunena Forum
Install the new Kunena Forum version
Test it thoroughly.
Backup your live site.
Uninstall the previous Kunena Forum on your live site.
Install the new Kunena Forum version on your live site

These instructions seem to suggest uninstalling it and reinstalling it twice.

Incorrect. Nothing gets removed from the database. Only files from the server. This morning I uninsalled 1.0.7 and reinstalled 1.0.8. Nothing is lost. BUT...if you are unsure you should ALWAYS make a backup of your database before you do anything.
