Thanks for your help on this.
I unziped the Kunena distributiom into a folder and tried the install from directory option -- with the same failed results.
I called GoDaddy who was unwilling/unable to expand the mysql connection time from 30 sec.
Is there a way to install manually? I ran the converter on my old FB 1.0.4 and now am unable to load either FB 1.0.5, FB 1.0.5RC2 or Kunena.
Thanks again.

Hmm.. I may have an idea how to install it. Take a look at:
administrator/components/com_kunena/fireboard.xml
It contains queries which will be run during upgrade. Try to figure out where the timeout happened and remove all queries, where you are sure that they have been run. Add the xml file back to zip and run delete/install again.. You can also try to run those queries by hand, but be sure that you run those php files before sql queries that come after them.
Did it work?

Thank you, I will give this a try. I was hoping all I had to do was to copy files into their proper directories. I do know how to run sql queries, I do not know how to tell where I timed out or what queries have already run. Oy vey!

.. or you can try to run the queries one by one by hand. But you still need to run those php files before running any queries that come after them.

I'm very frustrated after spending an hour trying to track the latest recommended steps for converting from Fireboard 1.04 to 1.05 and then to Kunena.
According to one instruction, I need to use fb_converter to upgrade to 1.05 but I cannot for the life of me find this to download. I understand the enthusiasm for Kunena and desire to get rid of Fireboard with security breaches but you guys need to do a better job of helping people make these changes.
Please email me at [email protected] how to do this. I cannot spend more time difgging through pages to find this information when it has probably already been deleted.
Sincerely,
Howard

Hi,
Sorry about the confusion. The fb_converter to move the configuration from FB file to FB database is part of the legacy FB. You can find it in the of FB archives here:
joomlacode.org/gf/project/fireboard/frs/
Procedure:
Backup
Install the converter
Uninstall the converter
Uninstall FireBoard
Install Kunena 1.0.8 (make sure you check the tech requirements: docs.kunena.com/index.php/Technical_Requirements )
Backup
The whole converter procedure is totally optional. You can print out your current settings and enter them into Kunena.
Hope this helps!
