Let’s be honest.
Kunena is a great project, one of the best of its kind.

But.....
Kunena is behind in SEO matters, and that is the only thing that is killing my passion for this project.

At the end of the road, SEO is the most important aspect of web success.

Attention kunena developers / moderators / staff
Make a public announcement ASAP, looking for volunteers, Kunena needs a super SEO Specialist
(I am not joking, I am really worry about this situation, and I am also available for help in this matter)

We have improved it to:
Meta for Kunena plugin Joomla - Joomla demo site

description meta

first 120 characters from the beginning of the message texte... + <Topic-title>

the texte and title have to be the one from the subject id in the url #... to avoid duplicate description>

Why showing the topic title? you can see it already on top. So thats unnecessary to show that. Only the content from the first topic is showed.

keywords meta

<Topic-title>, <category-title>, <parent-category-title-if-exist>, <forum-name> or <site-name> ?

Keywords should not be thats much info, its not used, you don't need it. Even more software products are removing the function.

Google uses meta descriptions to return results when searchers use advanced search operators to match meta tag content, as well as to pull preview snippets on search result pages, but it's important to note that meta descriptions do not to influence Google's ranking algorithms for normal web search.

Essentially, that's it. For all the talk about <Hn> tags in webpages—and it's only talk because nothing will be done about it in K 4.0—the main point of interest for me in this topic is to improve the appearance of our SERPs.

Although <Hn> tags and keywords may have some influence in indexing pages in search engines they have little influence in ranking those pages. Page ranking relates to SEO and page rankings are influenced by dozens of factors—whole books have been devoted to the subject.

Two minor corrections to some of the information 810 provided:

  • The maximum title length is actually closer to 70 characters (it varies from search engine to search engine). The title is obtained from the page title and that's mainly what the discussion in this topic is all about. My objective is to help people use those 70 characters in the best possible way through the use of a plugin.
  • The maximum description length is about 160 characters (again, varies from search engine to search engine) and SERP "snippets" generally use the content of messages posted on a forum. I have no intention of changing anything in this area.

Yes, nice to know that you're planning to do it some time in the future but it won't be happening in K 4.0.

The rest of the discussion about description and keyword generation, while they are important, are off-topic as far as this discussion is about.

My focus in this topic is about how the circled parts in the following screenshot are generated.

The text in these things is generated from the page title (some people prefer to use the term "browser page title"). The rest of the discussion about how search engines index URLs by factoring <Hn> usage or SERP rankings is off-topic.
