I just did a fresh test install ( Joomla 2.5.6 + Kunena 2.0.0 ) and get the error "500 Internal server error"

In another site, I upgraded Kunena ( Joomla 2.5.4, K 2.0.0) and was getting this error when I tried to navigate via username to the profile . On this site, all the K 2.0 extensions were also installed.

any Ideas?

G'day, jpharvey2, and welcome to Kunena.

In an ideal world, the guys who invented the world-wide web would not have a single catch-all error called "HTTP 500 Internal Server Error" but would, instead, have 500,000 sub-categories of this error to describe the cause of the fault. Whether it's laziness or not, we have to deal with the fact that diagnosing this kind of "I don't know what causes this problem, but I'm not going to do anything more except to tell you that I have an error somewhere and you figure it out" kind of message. Fortunately, Joomla helps a little.

As I have written on hundreds of occasions in this forum, when we see a topic that has as its subject, "HTTP 500 Internal Server Error" we wonder if people actually search the forum to look at what else has been written about the subject.

A few moments ago I wrote this, elsewhere:

sozzled wrote: To diagnose HTTP 500 Internal Server Errors, please read HTTP 500 Internal Server Error

The important thing is to find out the cause of the HTTP 500 Internal Server Error and, by enabling Kunena debug mode, you should be able to find that out.

I suspect that you will find the additional information that you get will show that your problem has been asked and answered before. We will know more when you have the additional information.

Thanks for fast reply.
Actually I have done the searching for answers, and turned on the Joomla & Kunena debug messages.
Not much help, so far.

The problem in the simple site ( Joomla 2.5.6 + Kunena 2.0.0 ) is:
- Kunena access from main menu ( not logged in) - no problem
- Kunena access after login - 500 error message, no other messages on my host.

Appreciate any other ideas? / jph
