Kunena 6.2.6 released

The Kunena team has announce the arrival of Kunena 6.2.6 [K 6.2.6] which is now available for download as a native Joomla extension for J! 4.4.x/5.0.x. This version addresses most of the issues that were discovered in K 6.1 / K 6.2 and issues discovered during the last development stages of K 6.2

This category is for discussing issues with the K 2.0 Blue Eagle template.

As general background, My Joomla site template makes a mess of Kunena .

We do not answer questions about other templates for Kunena here.

If you are having problems then, for your own benefit, it would save us all a lot of time if you would kindly post your configuration report when you ask for help from this forum. If you do not post your configuration report we will not ask you for it but you will probably not get your problem solved, either.

Question Is 2.0 Blue Eagle Mobile Friendly?

Hi guys, before I take the plunge and convert to the new version I wanted to check and see if this new version of blue eagle is actually mobile friendly. Being honest with you I want to be dazzled by Kunena 2.0 as I have been on the cusp of migrating to any other forum software that I can because of how bad Kunena is on mobile devices, I understand Mirage is due and will hopefully make Kunena look less like Fireboard/From last century but with no timeline given for this to be expected it is going to be difficult for me to justify my users not being able to use my forum because they cannot view on a phone.

There are many mobile templates available, including the view that is used with this website (try it for yourself). The short answer to your question - "Is Blue Eagle mobile-friendly?" - is no.

Are there other templates that you can install on your site that will dazzle you with their brilliance when viewed on a mobile device? Yes! ;)

Do you want to know more details about mobile-friendly templates for K 2.0? Search the forum or look at the advertisement near the top of this page.

Sozzled, with all due respect, third party mobile solutions are not the same as Kunena working properly in mobile. Each third party solution required much more hassle than should be required for a forum to work across all its target devices.

I have tried Mobile Joomla as well as the other one the developer mentions on here time and time again, neither worked for me and certainly not enough to warrant yet another layer of script and styling.

Will Mirage be mobile friendly? I saw previously that K2.0 was touted as having many mobile solutions so I assume that all hope rests on mirage - if so, any (loose) ETA on when a usable beta is to be expected?

Obviously I would rather not have the hassle of migrating to a non-native forum which again is another layer of potential issues waiting to be dealt with, I am trying to keep things simple - a forum that works for all my user, an article system that works for all my users, a responsive template design - that works for all my users, I am sure you catch my drift ;P

Did you look at www.kunena.org in your mobile? Simple yes or no will do for an answer.

And, with all due respect in return, Kunena project team members are not experts in mobile solutions. The Kunena project recognises the importance of mobile solutions which is why partnerships exist between various developers to bring a wide variety of choices to you.

In the same way as (in a literal sense) the question - "Is Blue Eagle mobile-friendly?" - relates to Mirage, the answer is, again, no. The templates developed by the Kunena project are designed for desktop/laptop/PC use. For those who like to take their forum out on the road with them (on their mobile phone, for example) there are other template alternatives that work quite well with Kunena.

I have looked at Kunena.org on my phone but it just shows the standard desktop template, even if I specify the browser being a mobile device.

I understand what you are saying about the team members not being mobile specialists, actually I am not asking for a full mobile solution but you have to be aware that a lot of visitors to forums now use their phones and as with all things web based, the very basic template should work in some form on most devices - K1.7 was appaling which is why I have been waiting (with bated breath) for 2.0 and hopefully some major overhaul of the layout and UI in order for it to work, or be workable with on a device other than desktop - thinking that Kunena has TPD's that will happily sell their users a solution and that being OK would be extremely short sighted.

What I say above relates to my question about mirage also though, the old issue with K1.7 Blue Eagle was the extensive use of fixed widths that do not allow most intelligent smartphones (at the very least) to resize in order to fit. I have one of the biggest screens and even I am unable to view my own forum on my device in landscape.

Again, I am not expecting a full mobile solution here which is why I asked if it was mobile 'friendly' meaning will it, like almost all major forums, scale to be viewed on a mobile device? Or is it still heavily reliant on fixed 'blocks' within the standard K2.0 templating system.

 What kind of phone are you using to view pages at this website. I'm using an iPhone 4 and I see the Moble Joomla! template as clear as my bloodshot eyes can make out things.

I'm sure that you're thinking I'm taking a very narrow, literal view of your original question which was "Is Blue Eagle mobile-friendly" and, it's true, I have been taking a literal, narrow view.

To broaden this discussion in order to speculate about the future Mirage template (which does not exist in K 2.0) goes against my better judgement but I offer the following observations that may or may not give you strategic information to assist you in your indecision to go with Kunena on your website.

(1) Blue Eagle is a table-driven template (based primarily on good ol' CSS2); Mirage is a tabless template that incorporates more advanced CSS features.

(2) It had been hoped that K 2.0 would incorporate two free, supported templates - Blue Eagle and Mirage - however there were significant problems achieving reliability with Mirage and it was decided to drop it from K 2.0.

(3) Development of the Mirage template continues; Mirage will be added in K 2.1 which is approximately scheduled to occur within the next 1-2 months

(4) I, personally, have not tested the Mirage for K 2.0 on a mobile device and so I cannot tell you how well it works.

(5) I do sympathise with you that mobile accessibility is important.

Are you suggesting that your site is using BOTH templates for the same forum? And if so, how is this done please?
