So what your saying is that even in the "kunena" component when your setting up forum access for guests, registered users and admins thats just a work around that isnt supposed to be there even though it is?

And you cant move topics even though its included in the component - but its really not?
Thats confusing. I never modded the program just using it. Maybe we need to look for something else cause privacy is important in forums. especially when posting IP addresses and phone numbers.

Those are Joomla access levels. They have NEVER worked properly for FireBoard/Kunena. And you can move topics all you want. But depending how you set up the forum using those access levels you may not be able to move them from one place to the next-as you are finding out.

You will need something like GroupJive to actually get that working.

yes, what grumblemarc is saying is that kunena is a component that has been built up progressively and somewhat haphazardly over several years and there are still a fair few things even in the recent releases of Kunena that are legacies of older code and still dont work. Access levels is one such feature that is only partially implemented and one that is not fully working as you have found out.

The devs behind kunena are overhauling the component i think with 1.5 native version and i am not sure exactly if quirks like this will be ironed our or not be included at all.

This is an opensource project and as such we have to understand the collective development effort that has made this project a little shaky in some aspects. If you are after a rock solid forum solution with robust access levels immediately then try looking at standalone forums like phpbb3, smf, vbulletin etc.

still wish that i can write my forum signature through a jomsocial plugin and do it from my jomsocial profile :(
