Kunena 7.0.4 Released

The Kunena team has announce the arrival of Kunena 7.0.4 [K 7.0.4] in stable which is now available for download as a native Joomla extension for J! 5.4.x/6.0.x. This version addresses most of the issues that were discovered in K 6.2 / K 6.3 / K 6.4 and issues discovered during the last development stages of K 7.0

As a newbie I'm struggling a bit, and this is my very first forum setup.
My first problem was solved by activating php5 on my server (my host runs both 4 and 5 side by side)
My forum now seems 95% functional, except for the search, which returns an error:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function mb_substr() in /home/sites/www.jcrecordings.com/public_html/components/com_kunena/lib/kunena.search.class.php on line 264.

I can see on this forum that i seem to have no support for multibyte strings in my PHP. I have contacted my host, but they seem to be struggling.
There is a workaround given in this forum :
Change mb_substr() call to substr().
but I don't know where to do this and to what files.
I have tried asking at the end of the old thread, but I'm not getting any responses.

Can anyone tell me how to change mb_substr() call to substr()?
