Now we're getting somewhere. I was successfully importing the updated user table, however users were not showing up in Joomla, only in the database.I think that some of the information you have provided may just hold the key to what I'm doing wrong.
Many thanks, keep your fingers crossed

well, I'm not exactly getting very far. I've spent the whole day trying to do this on still no joy. The instructions you gave me seem to work to everyone else. One of the links pointed to Joomla and the author of the instructions is also trying to help out. So I posted a message hoping someone will help.
Basically, the user tables will import perfectly okay. The (# jos_core_acl_aro
# jos_core_acl_groups_aro_map tables) are giving me trouble. Before I import them to the new site, I am emptying the tables. However a message is telling me that they already exist. I'm at a loss at the moment.

I'm sorry to hear that you haven't had any joy, mate. Actually, I was hoping that someone else (with more technical knowledge or direct experience of your situation) might have chipped in with a few suggestions but, alas, it seems that they're all on holidays at the moment.

Houston, the Eagle Has Landed
Got it working now. I ran a script that Sam provided in one of the threads. It seems that even though I was emptying the tables, they obviously weren't emptying properly although it was telling me they were empty. Anyway, his script obviously emptied them properly and verything went in just fine on all my new users are now showing up. At last!

Roger that, Columbia. So, maybe the month you thought it might take, will only be a matter of a few days?

No, it's going to take me a little longer because I've got other little projects on the go at the same time. I think the most time-consuming part will be deciding on the new layout, I'm finding new components.
Not really looking forward to migrating the forum, that's always a little intimidating. However,I've tried it out on a test site and everything went okay so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that things will work out just as well this time. Luckily, I'm building all on a temporary URL so when it's ready, it won't be off-line for more than an hour hopefully.
I just finished updating all my Joomla websites to 13 , and then blow me, the next day they release 14, can't win can you?.
