Question Search All Categories a NO-GO

When in the forum a user enters a keyword into the search box and clicks GO.
No results are displayed, and the user is defaulted to the advanced search page.
User clicks search with "ALL CATEGORIES" selected but search results are empty.
User deselects All Categories and selects one or all categories manually and the search displays results.

I have searched many a post, and they have helped me fix a few search issues, BUT THIS IS THE LAST ISSUE in the searching problem with this particular Kunena Forum I have had live for a few weeks now.

So I am looking for a solution to this.

ALSO, if no solution is possible would a viable work around be to have all categories already selected by default in the Search in Categories box and how would this be done?

Please note this is on a kunena 1.0.10 version forum and upgrading at this time is not possible due to a few hacked files in order to use BYOS tech permissions porgam which is working fine on our site.

What we need is a work around that will work for 1.0.10. Thank you!

G'day, mate. I'm sorry to see that no-one else has attempted to help you with your problem. :(

I have a vague recollection of some problems associated with the K 1.0.10 search function (I don't suppose that my thread UNOFFICIAL List of solved K 1.0.10 problems will be of much help to you) because, as far as I'm aware, the very few problems that were discovered in that version were corrected by K 1.0.11 (and many more were corrected with the latest release K 1.5.4).

I understand your reasons for not being able to upgrade beyond K 1.0.x but do those reasons entirely eliminate the opportunity to upgrade to K 1.0.11 at the very least?

Very puzzling situation that you've described. I can't offer too many suggestions. Do you get any error messages when you turn on Joomla debug?

If I was sharp enough I would settle for having all of the forum categories in the box pre-selected, and eliminate the top option that says all categories. Its a bit of a hack fix but it would work. I'm an implementer, not a developer. I can change code but need the code from devs first.

I possibly could get up to 1.0.11 but due to the nature of the site working with BYOS, having to wait on their updates on this particluar setup is cumbersome. Joomla not having permissions ACL's all these years has been a major drag and made the site in question need hacks to work. WHEN ITS WORKING ITS FINE, but these countless upgrades just complicate the matter.

To be honest, I'm burned out on all things joomla. This one project went well over 6 months of on and off problems searching solutions, repeat, etc, waiting on CB, and fireboard/kunena, and back and forth between waiting and tweaking, it's just been a long road and I'll be happy to walk away from it for a long time when I get to that point (SOON!)

Just a few more little issues to iron out like the above issues, Im sure it will never be perfect and IM fine with it. Ill do what I can with it before I Walk away.

Hi itgl,

if you can't upgrade to 1.0.11 you can try to manually overwrite the file responsable for searching in your forum from K1.0.11 BUT FIRST BACKUP.

components / com_kunena / template / default / plugin / advancedsearch / advsearch.php

and

components / com_kunena / lib / kunena.search.class.php

Regards
