Hello,

I have been searching around for some time looking for a way to set up some forums, and have not been able to fix this issue. Basically, I am looking for a way to set up forum access that will track this way.

level 1
level 2
level 3

and so on.

Someone that has level 1 access will have access to a number of forums. Those with level 2 access have level 1 access and level 2 access and so on.

The issue is that both fireboard and Kunena fall back to the Joomla group concept for read access to the forums. I need to use a list of groups that are independent of that access methodology. It sounds like something that should be doable with Community Builder, but if it is I have not figured out how to accomplish it yet.

What am I missing?

Thanks much
Craig

The short answer is that it's not immediately doable in Kunena.

What you're missing is an access control régime that works with Joomla - there are a few listed at the Joomla Extensions DirectoryJoomla Extensions Directory (search for "ACL") - and these security features need to be implemented/integrated into Kunena (if that's a strategy for the development team).

I've read, somewhere, Joomla 1.6 (or Joomla 2) will delve in that space. Perhaps you will need to wait a little while longer.

You can currently do this with CBSubs component (commercial addon for CB).

I have already planned basic acl for Kunena, but in order to do that we still need to do some work.
