As you say, your "new" question is quite different to your original question. In order to help you (and other users who may experience the same problem) you should start a new discussion topic.

I don't know the specific answer to this new question you've asked. Sorry.

The fact that the new categories do not appear in the pull-down list suggests that there is something quite peculiar. I don't completely understand the situation you described in your original message (and I think those who have responded also haven't fully appreciated what you want help with, either). You wrote:

I have made a new category ... it is published but when I click on the link to move it the new category doesn't show

You want to move a category or you want to move a discussion topic. Could you please clarify what you want to know, please.

I don't know how to "move a category" other than to reassign a "forum" to a different parent. Is that what you want help with?

It's also possible, given the new information you've just posted, that your Kunena installation may be flawed. For us to help you (and to resolve this matter quickly) we need your active participation. Thanks. :)

The simplest way that I know how to confim which PHP version you've got running on your website is to write a small file (call it something like checkVersion.php) with this line of code
Code:
phpinfo();
then upload this file to the root directory of your website and run it (e.g. <my-domain>/checkVersion.php) and look at the report.
