Hmm.. That's true. You need to register to joomlacode.org in order to have access in any SVN repositories in there. But our repository has open read access, so you don't have to join our project to have SVN access.

I just made K1.0.11 for those who want it. It contains fixes to most of the issues reported in here. Thanks xillibit for your help!

K1.0.11 will be released in few days (after some testing).

This is, indeed, welcome news.

I have to say that, nearly 4 weeks after the release of K 1.0.10, I still lack the confidence that I've tested the component and that I could safely upgrade my production sites. With the release of K 1.5 now imminent, (and because we still do not have a comprehensive list of known K 1.0.10 issues) yesterday I needed to make a decision to go ahead with K 1.0.10 anyway. I spent my day upgrading my production sites.

It would appear that K 1.0.10 is to be a somewhat short-lived product. Therefore I'm going to make some rather bold statements about it:
  1. K 1.0.10 works ... but ...some problems need you to edit the source code to fix them and - depending on the version of Joomla - some problems may never be fixed. There is one area that has to be fixed: Warning: mb_substr() [function.mb-substr]: Unknown encoding "" in components/com_kunena/class.kunena.php on line 1292. Aside from that one, most of the problems occur only if you use Community Builder on your website.
  2. A dozen or more other problems occur if you use J! 1.0.x; it's my guess that that K 1.0.10 will never work properly in a J! 1.0.x environment.
  3. There are some issues for WAMP/XAMMP websites.
  4. No-one has yet confirmed that K 1.0.10 works on a J! 1.5.11 platform. I'm willing to gamble that it doesn't.
  5. The new BBcode editor, introduced in K 1.0.10, has ushered in a new range of problems, inconsistencies and "gotchas" - sometimes things don't work the way you expect them to.
Is the K 1.0.11 version worth the effort and will it be a viable solution to the needs of J! 1.0.x users? Should J! 1.5.11 users forget about K 1.0.x altogether? Should we even bother addressing problems and solutions with Kunena/Fireboard versions before K 1.0.9? I don't know the answers - they don't affect me personally anyway - but these are questions that will haunt the forums for months.

What also will occur with discomforting frequency will be the range of new problems that people discover with the enhanced functionality. K 1.0.10 was only supposed to be a bugfix for K 1.0.9 but, because it introduced so much new functionality, it caused me a month's delay while we tested the significant number of new features and corrected the problems they introduced. I certainly hope that K 1.0.11 lives up to the promise of correcting problems, not introducing new ones. B)

I've been running 1.0.10 on a Joomla site v. 1.5.11 production site for a couple weeks now and haven't had any issues since I upgraded.

Thanks. I wish I'd known that two weeks ago!

@ sozzled:

1. Kunena 1.0.10 works, but have 2 major issues.

Most of the known issues in K1.0.10 have been fixed for K1.0.11 and which has mainly been tested in Joomla! 1.0. We will get more test reports on both Joomla platforms later today/tomorrow. Kunena 1.0.10 didn't contain many new features (2 actually), but it contained over different 250 bug/php compatibility fixes! This far I've found only 2 major regression bugs in it:

# [#16663] Fix broken kunenaforum.min.js (used in CB integration)
# [#16526] Search: mb_substr() Unknown encoding warning, message bodies missing from results

... together with compatibility issues with old CB versions and some smaller bugs. Many of the other issues can also be found from K1.0.9.

2. Most problems in J1.0 environments were old bugs in K1.0.9, but many of them were hidden (PHP error reporting was forced to be off). Enabling error reporting and fixing those bugs revealed more problems in some environments. We are running K1.0.10 in J!1.0 production environment and there are no issues in it. Many of the found issues are unique to some environments (PHP, MySQL, Joomla etc compatibility problems).

3. I hope that WAMP/XAMP issues have been fixed in K1.0.11

4. At least for me K1.0.10 works in J!1.5.11 platform. I've not confident that those issues were triggered because of J!1.5.11 -- there were also some other variables in the play.

5. Just tell us how the new editor should work -- we will fix it. Open a new feature request thread for it.

Kunena 1.0.11

K 1.0.11 fixes most problems which have been reported in our forum. It contains nothing else than relatively small bug fixes. It has been developed in J!1.0.15 environment but contains only well tested fixes which were backported from K1.5.3.

Here are all the confirmed regression bugs that were introduced in K1.0.10 (7 bugs):

# [#16670] Category / Subcategory layout is slightly broken in IE
# [#16671] Board Categories have &nbsp ; showing in them (J!1.0)
# [#16645] Broken BBCode editor in My Profile (use simple version of Rolands editor instead)
# [#16663] Fix broken kunenaforum.min.js (used in CB integration)
# [#16526] Search: mb_substr() Unknown encoding warning, message bodies missing from results
# [#16567] Warn/detect possible problems in Community Builder integration
# [#16667] Administrator: Editing CSS does not work in Windows

And here are all the old "legacy" bugs which I've fixed for K1.0.11 (16 bugs):

^ [#16501] Allow for menu link variations for JomSocial to get correct item id
# [#16745] Collection of small bugs/typos
# [#16664] Fix notices in BBCode parser, permissions handling and profile
# [#16662] Editor: Opening Boardcode link to the same window causes written message to disappear
# [#16078] Remove broken Bad Words component support
# [#16748] Add page number in meta description (For better Google results)
# [#16757] Forum stats: Popular 5 Threads shows threads where you don't have access to
# [#16775] Use better URL detection in BBCode parser
# [#16728] Path missing in include (kunena.parser.php)
# [#16722] User Profile shows messages in categories where user has no permissions
# [#16724] Fatal database error in default_ex/listcat.php:269
# [#16677] BBCode parser bug crashes Kunena
# [#16678] Announcements: Read more if there is nothing to be read
# [#16642] Forum jump does not work if you go to Board Categories
# [#16666] Search doesn't work reliably for registered only+ forums
# [#16637] Administrator: Defaut_red/green/gray should not be shown in Image Set list as they contain no images

Of course there are also some bugs which haven't been solved or recognized yet.
