Please list the exact steps that you are going through in trying to install Kunena on your J! 1.6.1 site so that we can see at what point you are getting this error message. Thank you.

This issue is quit common when installing components, modules etc. in Joomla. Most often, it is an invalid pakkage you have downloaded and trying to install.
Try to download the file again, and see if it will fix the problem :)

  1. I went to the address www.kunena.org/download I downloaded the file com_kunena_v1.6.3_b4344_2011-01-31;
  2. From joomla I tried to install the package "management extensions"
  3. The system returns the message "Unable to find install package".

I downloaded the package several times but the result is always the same

Using the same file on joomla 1.5 it works fine

I understand what you did in step (1)

I do not understand the what you mean by step (2) "I tried to install the package 'management extensions'". In J! 1.6 the English translation is "Extension Manager".

You have left out a few steps that might explain what happens between when you "tried to install the package" and when the system returns the "unable to find install package" message.

On the basis of what you have written, it seems fairly clear to me that your problems are not Kunena problems. I have asked you to read the K 1.6 Installation Guide . There is nothing wrong with downloading the installation kit but that is not the method recommended in the K 1.6 Installation Guide . The K 1.6 Installation Guide has a video that shows you what you need to do. Did you watch the video?

If you cannot install Kunena on J! 1.6 then I suggest that you need to look at whether your J! 1.6 site is properly setup to install any Joomla extensions. If you cannot install any Joomla extensions then you may need to obtain a professional expert to diagnose and fix your problems (or to install Kunena for you). The simple fact is that there are dozens or hundreds of people who have created J! 1.6 website and who have installed K 1.6 and they don't have the problems that you are having.

So you need to ask yourself, what are you doing differently? Would you like me to arrange for you to have someone look at your J! 1.6.1 website - at your own expense, of course - and to install Kunena for you? Or are you happy to keep trying on your own? And last of all, please read this: Support for PC-hosted websites (e.g. WAMP, XAMPP) .
