Kunena 6.2.6 released

The Kunena team has announce the arrival of Kunena 6.2.6 [K 6.2.6] which is now available for download as a native Joomla extension for J! 4.4.x/5.0.x. This version addresses most of the issues that were discovered in K 6.1 / K 6.2 and issues discovered during the last development stages of K 6.2

Question 10 to 20 second delay on post submit

I've been searching through this forum and trying everything I can to try and solve this issue. When you create a new topic or reply to an existing topic and click the submit button, there is a 10 - 20 second delay before the screen refreshes. This leads to posters clicking the submit button repeatedly because they think the post wasn't sent.

I read that it could be template related, so I tried with the default beez2 template and get the same results.
I tried turning subscriptions off completely - still get the delay.
I tried changing the SMTP server to one that I know is functioning perfectly for other sites - still get the delay.
I then tried PHP mail function - same thing.
I thought it might be SEO related, so I tried turning off those options in Joomla - guess what? I still get the delay.
I initially had uddeIM installed. Uninstalled it and made sure that under integration the option is set to "none". Still get a delay.
I'm including my configuration report below. One thing that I don't get is that when I expand the section for Kunena menu, it doesn't show any of the items. I recreated the menu following instructions I found here and it remains the same.
Hopefully, there is something glaring in this report that explains the delay.

I just posted this on your site and there was a delay of over 10 seconds. Could this be browser related?

I think it's your connection problem (or there is something program on what take all bandwidth). Try reboot your computer at first.

We are not really able to help very easily in this case because we don't know where the problem occurs. Because the problem is not widespread it is unlikely that the issue is related to Kunena but possibly due to an almost infinite range of possibilities. The only information that I can suggest, at this time (and in the absence of full disclosure of information in the K 1.6 configuration report posted here) is to read K 1.6 Technical Requirements.

I do not doubt that there is a problem on the user's website but I do not know what specific information bobede expects from us, either.

FYI, I live 7,500 km (as the crow flies) from the server where www.kunena.com and the round-trip from when I press the submit button to receiving a response is about 2 seconds.

The only thing I changed in the report that Kunena created was the domain url and the mail server. It is a private site, and I can't really share that information with the rest of the planet.

As for your referral to the Technical Requirements, the documentation clearly states that during installation Kunena checks to ensure that all technical requirements are met and that in the event they are not met, the software does not install and returns an error message. So unless that's a boldface lie, I wouldn't have been able to install Kunena if the server didn't meet the requirements. Regardless, everything listed in the technical requirements is included in the report.

You do not have to share the information with the rest of the planet. If you don't want to share that information with administrators/forum moderators of this site, that is also your decision and we respect that.

There are parts of the K 1.6 configuration report that are only viewable by administrators/forum administrators. The development team understands this need for privacy and that is why the K 1.6 configuration report was constructed the way that it was. If you doubt this, look at any other topic on this site, where people have posted their configuration report, and you will not see that information, either ... but we can even if you can't.

You want us to check the latency on your site? How would you like us to do that?

The Kunena installation procedure checks most of the common problems that may occur but it's not foolproof. Some things are not easy to check and that's why the K 1.6 Technical Requirements document was written. But even there, this document is only meant to be a guide and I think it's unfair to conclude that it provides comprehensive coverage of every difficulty that users may experience in "the real world". The responsibility for verifying that you have a reliable basis to install Kunena is up to you. For those who would rather not take on this technical burden themselves, they can always call in (and pay for) expert specialist assistance.

Thanks for offering, but I don't need you to check the latency on the site. I've tested it from 3 separate isp's and the result is the same. I don't believe it has anything to do with a connection issue - we have fiber right to the rack in this building and our file transfer speeds are blazingly fast. As far as other software hogging bandwidth - there's nothing else running that would be using bandwidth - no p2p, no updates, no download running in another window.

I can only conclude that there is some setting, or combination of settings on the server that is not optimal for Kunena. If the Technical requirements are only a guide, as you say, then tracking down the problem could take a significant amount of time. And even then, because it is hosted on a shared server I probably won't be able to effect the necessary changes to correct the problem. ie. I can't changes a specific version of php or mysql.

Can you recommend a hosting provider(s) where Kunena is known to be fully compatible?

Have you conducted any tests on a clean J! 1.6.3 site (with no other extensions added) and K 1.6.4 (and no changes made to it) and what do the results show? If you can run "vanilla-flavoured" J! 1.6.3 with "out-of-the-box" unmodified K 1.6.4 together and you do not get 10-20 latency when you submit messages then it says three things:

(1) It's not your webhost or your internet connection
(2) It's not Kunena or J! 1.6.3
(3) It's something else you have added to the software soup on your site.

Can we recommend a hosting provider? Sure, we can do that. I can also say that if you throw peanuts at the problem you're likely to attract monkeys. Let me put it to you this way: if my internet business depended on having a reliable webhosting support I would be looking at a minimum or around $10 per month (I'm paying a lot more than that, but then I have "extra" needs).

I'll try a clean install on the same server and see what I get. As far as plugins go, I had a standalone version of Front Page Slideshow (no J1.6 version avaialable) running in an iFrame (not on the discussion pages, only on the home page) and I had added uddeIM which I removed. But I will try it fresh and vanilla flavoured as you suggest and post my results.

As far as my hosting provider goes, like you I pay alot more than $10 per month and they are very knowledgeable and quick to respond to any issues regarding hosting. They did in fact, look into the latency issue for me to see if it might be server related and spent a good half hour with me yesterday going over possibilities. They don't however offer extensive support on web based applications like Joomla or its plugins. Nor would I expect them to, considering the thousands of web based apps that are out there. It almost sounds as though you expect the hosting provider to solve a software issue on software that they didn't write. Does your provider really do this for you? If so, please forward the name.

Vanilla install has same results - a delay of about 11 seconds or so. Here is the config report info. I created this vanilla install under a separate domain name on the same server to ensure the base environment would be the same.

Please feel free to test it yourself if you're so inclined.
