Usually, problems like this indicate something not quite right with routing. Can we try turning off SEO for a test, see if the links then operate correctly and report your finding? If this test shows that there is a problem with routing, we need to investigate the .htaccess file that you're using. See Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) for background information.

Hi sozzled. Thanks for the help. You are right I turned sef and apache off and I was able to make the forum links work that way.

Now if I can just get it to work with sef and apache. Any idears?

Yes. My ideas are to read, very carefully, Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) . Your problem is a Joomla problem; it is not a Kunena problem. It looks like your .htaccess file has been customised (or is outdated). Please use the .htaccess file that came with the J! 1.5.22 installation kit (at least try it). You might also look at forum.joomla.org for other tips about what you might need to do to properly enable Joomla SEO.

Most of these problems are caused by using a customised .htaccess file. The standard Joomla-supplied .htaccess file (shipped as htaccess.txt for J! 1.5) is exactly 2663 bytes. How large is the .htaccess file that you are using, exactly?

My .htaccess has been modified.

A couple of times. One in particular was redirect of non www. links, redirect to www.

I dont really want to lose that. There are some other mods in there as well. I guess this means I can't have kunena with sef enabled?

Bummer because for me it was the best solution so far out of all forums phpbb3, smf, ninja. :(

I do not know how to write .htaccess files. I've never bothered to learn. I do "simple" and I leave the complicated technical stuff to the experts. I can assure you, there are tens of thousands of Kunena users who will tell you that it SEF links work with standard Joomla SEO and this site is one good example.

First things first. Before you start worrying about not being able to use SEF links with Kunena, can you test the situation? It's really simple to test. Rename your existing .htaccess file as htaccess.old and take the original Joomla-supplied htaccess.txt and rename it as .,htaccess and then see if this fixes the Kunena problem. If it does, good. You know that you've got a problem with your original, modified .htaccess file and you can fix it up because you know how to write .htaccess files.
