First, I had an issue with profiles not working, so I came around here did a bit of research and enabled the mootools upgrade. Categories in the forum were working, everything except profiles. No, I still can not edit profiles, but the biggest problem is that the forum categories go to a 404 page.

I have no idea where to go from here.

First an fore most you should try updating to Kunena 1.6.3 as it solved may issues with the previous versions.

I also know that there have been many topics out Rockettheme site temples causing problem with Kunena. This my very well be your problem..

I would first update Kunena to the latest version. If your problem still persists try changing you site template to a default Joomla template and see if the problem is still there.

If your problem is because of your site template you need to contact the people that made your site template

Thanks, toasty, and that's very good advice.

404 errors are usually an indication that there's a problem with the Joomla menu set-up. SEO may also be a contributing factor. Sometimes all that's needed is to delete the existing Joomla menu items that refer to Kunena and create them again. The Kunena Create Menu feature removes many of those menu problems. First and foremost, the key to a successful Kunena installation requires a solid, dependable Joomla basis. There are many articles in the Wiki that can help: K 1.6 Technical Requirements is one of them.

I was actually running K1.63 and having exactly the same problem. Can access the forum index page but no category or topic pages. Deleted the Kunena menu and used the Create Menu Function to republish it.

Also just upgraded to K1.64 but no change. It is definately a Joomla! SEF related problem as the 404 errors only appear with Joomla! Use SEF URLs activated. Disabling Use Apache mod_rewrite makes no difference, neither does disabling the Kunena's SEF URL functionality.

Having no problems with any other components installed when using SEF URLs.

Please enable Joomla debug mode and Kunena debug mode and look for reported errors when you try to use Kunena. Thank you.

After enabling debug mode in Joomla! and Kunena I received the following errors when trying to use Kunena:

Component not found

Call stack
# Function Location
1 JSite->dispatch() /htdocs_zbte/index.php:68
2 JComponentHelper->renderComponent() /htdocs_zbte/includes/application.php:124
3 JError->raiseError() /htdocs_zbte/libraries/joomla/application/component/helper.php:95
4 JError->raise() /htdocs_zbte/libraries/joomla/error/error.php:171
5 JException->__construct() /htdocs_zbte/libraries/joomla/error/error.php:136

EDIT: [strike]Just to clarify, I'm now unable to access the index page either. Other than republishing the kunena menu, nothing else on the site was changed.[/strike]
Can still access the index page with SEF turned on, but no category or topic pages etc.
