Does this problem occur if you do not use the Aphotic II template? In other words, is the profile box hidden (as you would expect it to be hiddine) if you use the Blue Eagle (default) template? We cannot answer questions about third party-developed templates in this forum, sorry.

Regarding the article about PC-hosted websites.. I'll see what happens when I've put this up on my GoDaddy host.

Then I clicked back to my testsite and logged out of Joomla. Logged back in again with the same user and now the profilebox is gone. Guess it has something to do with local PC-hosted websites as you pointed out.
