Thank you for your replies. I'm glad we understand one another. :)

The redirect loop problems are not always caused by .htaccess but this is the first place that I would look. If I were in your shoes I would take your existing .htaccess file and rename it to htaccess.old. Then I would take the file htaccess.txt and rename it to .htacesss just to see if this fixed the problem. It might also be that the htaccess.txt file you have is not up-to-date either. If this is the case, you might consider extracting the file htaccess.txt from the current J! 1.5.22 installation kit (the full kit) and copying it to your website and then rename it to .htaccess there.

There are other possibilities for why you are getting these redirect loop issues but let's completely eliminate the ones that I've mentioned.

Sorry to hear that your database tables were corrupted somehow. These things happen, unfortunately.

Except for the database corruption and the redirect loop issues, have you now sorted out your K 1.6.1 upgrade?

I tried a new htaccess file from a fresh full download of J! however that did not solve the problem. When I turn off SEO for the entire site, the forum works just fine.

These issues are really post-installation matters. If you have installed K 1.6.1 correctly then this topic should be moved to another category. I have done that for you.

Another contributing factor to these redirect loop issues may have something to do with the way that you have setup your menu items. Could you please provide us with your configuration report. Thanks.

Other causes of this redirect loop issue are:

(1) legacy menu items from K 1.5
(2) menu item with no itemid
(3) the wrong itemid (this would not be generated by the Kunena component)
(4) some peculiar issues involving third-party SEF software
(5) customised .htaccess

I can't tell you much more about the issues you're currently having at the moment because there is no way of getting to the forum on your site. But, first of all, you might consider whether the ideas I've listed above are possibly relevant to your circumstances.
