On my site I'm planning on running an open board. However I want to cut the articles into 3 parts. After reading 1/3 or 2/3 of the message, I want to display a message like:

... Please register to continue reading ...

Is this possible?

Cheers!

The short answer is no. However, if you pay $5,000 into my Swiss numbered account, anything is possible.

But, seriously, I don't know where this has been attempted before in Joomla. If you were prepared to pay someone for the solution you might have some success - good luck. I would go to Joomlancers and ask your question there.

Thanks for the quick reaction sozzled. It seems you are always online when I need ya xd

Please let me explain however. I'm not talking about Joomla, I'm talking about Kunena. Does this lower the amount for your swiss bank account XD :)

Lol, Think it's possible?

Cheers!

You need a Joomla/PHP programmer who knows something about Kunena.

When I said "I'm having trouble hearing you", I meant "Money talks, people listen". It was meant to be a joke.

As I said earlier, your idea is not achievable in Kunena in its current form. Kunena would need to be substantially changed to accommodate your request. Kunena is a Joomla component, therefore to make the change would require someone who understands how Jooma, Kunena and PHP all work together. Does that make more sense to you?

I don't really think your request is achievable "automagically" with Kunena, anyway. Perhaps there's another commercial solution that provides the automagic workflow? For now, you'll have to resign yourself to living with what you've got.

What you could do - at no cost and without making any changes to Kunena - is implement your solution in one of two other ways:
  1. Use the Hide button
Part of the message is hidden for the guests. Please log in or register to see it.
  2. Divide your message thread, as you suggested, into three parts: put the first two parts into a forum category that the public can see; place the thrid part into a forum category that only your registered users can view. Place a link in "part two" to the "final part".
This is a cheap solution and it's easy to do. It just involves your time, that's all.

Sometimes it's better to look at the problem in another way and the solution will come a lot easier. As I'm often reminding people, not all problems are technical and, certainly, not all technical solutions are the best. Quite often it's much better to ignore the technology - the means - and concentrate on how using a different approach - the method. It's the difference between lateral thinking and literal thinking. Got it? ;)
