Hello misterdj, are you using a hosting provider or local computer installation for your joomla install.

Sounds like you have a permissions issue. This is very true if you are using an installation like XMAPP which does not always play nice with permission issues.

@xillibit, just wondering would it be better to have permissions on 755 on those associated directories, otherwise you leave those extrememly wide open. Just a suggestion

Do you have the safe mode on off ?
What is your php version ?
What is your joomla! version ?

Check that these directories have the permissions on 777 :

/components
/modules
/language/en-GB
/administrator/components
/administrator/modules
/administrator/language/en-GB

Do you have the safe mode on off ? - dont't know, where do I've got te look?
What is your php version ? - by my webhost I see phpmyadmin 2.9.2
What is your joomla! version ? - 1.5.16

For that safetything you've got to help me, because (as you noticed) I'm a bit of a noob on this.

Look in your phpinfo and search for safe_mode

This is phpmyadmin is different to you php version, you will see that too in the phpinfo

Do you have checked the permissions of joomla! directories ? You can look in joomla! backend in Help -> system info -> directory permissions

And for others directories ?
It's important to know if the safe_mode is on or off, do you have looked for this ?
