Question Can I use the userlist settings to control what is displayed in the user profile?

yes i checked this one myself from what i understood of what the issue was, it seems to works fine for me, so im guessing it something you have installed on your site that is coursing the issue. maybe if you give me a list of installed plugins, modules and components plus what ever versions of kunena joomla and what themes you have on your site and if you have upgraded from another forum (phpbb fireboard xoop) maybe i can reproduce the same error.

I'm definitely no closer to understanding what are the "problems" that are implied by the subject of this discussion. The topic title refers to "problems with profile data" - I don't know what they are - and there has been much discussion about "plugin settings" (but I don't know how they're involved). The userlist plugin settings only affect the userlist.

The only userlist plugin setting (that I'm aware of) that is used for something other than the userlist is "user type" - this was discussed in How is "user type" hidden at www.kunena.com ? . If there are other uses of the userlist plugin parameters then these are a complete surprise to me. :blink:

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think we're talking about making changes to Kunena not about how Kunena should work in its unmodified form. Have I correctly understood the "problems" now?

I see now thanks to sozzled's image that I was a bit off as to what the user plugins do.
They seemed to me to belong to user profiles. I see now the belong to user list.

Guess that's why I couldn't use the User List settings for User Profile. :woohoo:

Either way, I think that displaying the usernames and usertypes can be a potential security risk, as it then becomes quite easy to start using brute force to hack the site.

I just used the userlist settings to turn of the things I want turned off in User profile, and I didn't realize my misstake and took it for a feature that was missing.

Yes. I'm glad we straightened this out. Userlist settings control the userlist.

It's OK to write when you have a problem. It's OK to write that you have a problem understanding how Kunena works. However, in future, please be careful choosing a discussion subject that implies there are problems (defects) in Kunena. I have changed this discussion topic to better reflect what this topic has been about to help others in future.
