i wounder if its possible to add in a php script for downloading files for example the current kunena displays the path of the file in the webserver was woundering if its possible to hide this information like the do with phpbb vbulletin etc also this could open up other doors for things such as allow downloads to registered users only etc :D

I would question the use of a discussion forum as a data repository for downloading files. Kunena is discussion forum software. Although there are ways that you can permit only registered users access to certain things in the forum, if you want to manage file downloads in a systematic and controlled manner you might prefer another Joomla extension that was designed and built specifically for those purposes. It's easier and cheaper in the long run. For your consideration.

You could use the "hide" feature.

That is exactly right! Therefore, if you want to secure your files then you should not be using Kunena to store them which is basically what I said. What you need is a separate feature that allows you to control who can access the file downloads and, because this nothing to do with Kunena, I have to leave it up to you to find out more about that. I suggest that you browse the Joomla Extensions Directory . B)

K 1.5 functionality is not being extended. K 1.5 first appeared over 12 months ago - there have only been one or two changes made, in that time, to include a couple of features that were being added in K 1.6. In the future there will be no more backporting of K 1.6 features to K 1.5. K 1.5.12 is, in effect, the end-of-life version for that series (just like K 1.0.11 was end-of-life for K 1.0). The only changes that might be made to K 1.5 will be to fix major problems if anyone discovers them otherwise K 1.5.12 is "it"

The design of K 1.6 has been locked down. It was originally intended that K 1.6 would be released around February/March this year but additional new features prolonged the development time-frame. At this time the project team is eager to close out K 1.6 as a production release as soon as possible. When this happens, the only other changes that are likely to occur will be maintenance releases to correct major problems that users discover. Therefore, I would not expect any significant new functionality to be introduced with K 1.6.

The development team has been planning for K 1.7; it's too early yet to say what is in-scope and what is out-of-scope but, with a life-cycle planned for around 3 months, some tough decisions need to be made about what can be delivered in that time-frame.

There are two ways that your requirement can become a higher priority for the next version of Kunena. One way is to gather a significant amount of support for the idea. The other way might be to contribute what you can, your time, your skill, your money (perhaps) to the project.
