To make things clear was created by Andreaz
Ok. As I see Kunena looks great now. It allowrs everyone to join and projects is concentrated on speed, customization and simplicity. Everything looks good so far, but somehow you haven't gave clear information about this project.
First of all I want to know is this just a fork from fireboard and fireboard will be still continued by Danialt? Or everyone from FB will be working just on Kunena?
Hope to hear an answer.
Thank you.

Kunena is a fork of fireboard, yes, but this is just the first step on it's way, we plan it to be far better than FB was.
And we don't know about BOJ plans for FB, Kunena team right now has the people who worked in FB1.0.5, that's fxstein, matias, ryan and you could say me (lol), nobody from BOJ is in the team, although they are welcome to join us.

kunena was born after not seeing any future for FB, so, as the pepople behing the 1.0.5 branch, we will give support for it, as BOJ forums are currently closed... and the devs of it are same as kunena (danialt nor greatpixels took part in that branch)

...and of course kunena will be a new step after FB 1.0.5, aming to be a completely new extension, ridden from the flaws of FB, for the ones as us don't belive anymore in FB2.0, nor BOJ...

Thank you for the answer. I have few sggestions for you now. First would be add more information about Kunena in the frontpage of the website. That people would know who the team is and how it got to work with Kunena. Second would be - make a visible download button for Kunena latest version. And the third add Kunena to Joomla extension Directory and other directories. Make threads in Joomla forum about Kunena. People should know more about your project :)

Andreaz,

The decision to create this fork has not been a light one. I can only speak for myself but I believe the rest of the Kunena team will provide similar reasons. In general I do not believe that forks help the community and its software products.

I myself was an FB user just over a year ago, when I decided to help with some bug fixes. What was a couple fixes here and there became more and more a rewrite of the original code. I got great help from racoon but he and I where out there by ourselves most of the time. For months he and I would barely have any contact with the rest of the team. And while some of us where 'moderators' on boj, we had no access to the core and virtually no contact with the founders.

We had no access to the site emails and when security alerts started coming in we did not hear about them until after fireboard was threatened to be removed from Joomla. We had a fix coded within days and it has been in the code base ever since then.

When the SVN was locked down last year by the boj admins, it took away the ability for many others to help collaborate on a great project. None of us where able to allow others to join.

By November of last year it became clear that no one from the boj team was supporting or working on 1.0.5 in any way. And the non J1.5 native FB 2.0 version was stuck. That was the time when I got approached by various developers in the Joomla community who wanted to help and open up the access to what was fb. After a meeting in Palo Alto, CA we decided to come up with a new 1.5 based forum component called Kunena.

We all learned about the boj shutdown by accident. Unfortunately the lack of communication has made it impossible to collaborate on that project. Several folks had offered their help but did not get a chance to contribute other than to post up hacks.

The core team of boj is a very capable design team. We wish them all the best for their endeavor and do hope they will come back to contribute to the Joomla community.

At the same time it has to be about consistency of a team. We all know that many of us will be busy at times. It is even more important that we enable the community and a team of developers to collaborate and not let ourselves become the bottleneck for progress.

This is why we founded Kunena some 2 months ago and why we ended up creating a legacy fork some 2 weeks back. No hard feelings in any way, just the wish for an open platform that will serve all our Joomla forum needs.

:)

Have a great day!

You are 100% right. We just focused on getting a stable version done first before starting the promotion tour.

All of your suggestions will be implemented in the upcoming days.

Thanks and Have a great day!
