Question default_ex template causes errors when drilling into categories

Sorry about the mouthful of subject line!

On my test installation I've upgraded to 1.0.10.

I want to switch from default to default_ex template to get the nice "latest discussions" layout. I selected the default_ex template and icon set but when I go to the categories tab and drill down into a category I get a series of on screen errors similar to what others are seeing:

Are you using a modified k.1.0.9 default_ex template?

If not, check your folder & file permissions. Also I see from the url, you are using SEF.
Is this the built-in joomla SEF, or is it a third party extention?

Try disabling SEF and see if you experience this issue.

Note* the link you provided returns a 404.

I see that you've taken JBHawaii's suggestion to remove SEF. The unadorned link to your "General Chat" category - which illustrates the errors - is www.hounslowtw3.net/dev/component/option...atid,2/func,showcat/ . I could be wrong but this looks familiar to me as a Joomla 1.0.x URL construction.

Are you using Joomla 1.0.x?

I also see that you're using a some RocketTheme features. If you search the forums here at www.kunena.com you will find cases where RocketTheme (in particular the notorious RokCandy plugin) affected Kunena. You might have to consider removing those features for testing purposes at least.

I was using a modified default_green template, hadn't touched the default_ex files but want to switch to use the Latest Discussion tab like here on the Kunena board.

I'm using Joomla 1.5.10 and the Versatility 4 rocket theme template.

I don't know if I'm using RokCandy but will check as you suggest.

I just find it strange that it's only happening with the default_ex template.

Can't find a rokcandy plugin in the list and in the rockettheme template I switched the JS Compatability mode from "off" to "on" but still no joy.

I also switched off SEF completely for Kunena and it doesn't make a difference.
