Question kunena 1.x --- should I wait on 1.5??

Hello,
I am a newbie and wondering why should I wait on 1.5b?

While I am not brave enough to throw 1.5a on my joomla 1.5.9 site... is there a reason I should not just use 1.0.9 for the next few months while kunena's 1.5 kinks are worked out?

As I understand it, the 1.0.9 is stable now. So, all I have to do is turn on legacy mode and I have a kunena forum that is compatible with my community builder 1.2 and presto... done until I upgrade, correct? Or, am I missing something????

What is the down side of this?

Many thanks,
Mike

KN 1.5.0a is alpha , and 1.5.0b will not be stable too and is not recommend to use on live site. To use KN 1.0.9, as you have written is the best way.

There is really no need to wait. 1.0.9 is basically the same software just not native. Yes you will need to turn on the legacy plugin but that is it. It will not do anything to your system, nor does it make Kunena run slower.

Once Kunena 1.5.x goes stable you will be able to upgrade without any manual intervention. Simply uninstall 1.0.9 at that point in time, disable the Legacy plugin and install 1.5.x

All data and settings will be preserved.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the quick replies. I went ahead and uploaded the 1.0.9 after turning on the legacy mode plugin.

I did get the following errors:
Creation/permission setting of the following directories failed:
/var/www/homeprodigy.com/htdocs/blog/media/kunena/attachments/legacy/
/var/www/homeprodigy.com/htdocs/blog/media/kunena/attachments/legacy/avatars
/var/www/homeprodigy.com/htdocs/blog/media/kunena/attachments/legacy/avatars/gallery (you have to put avatars inside if you want to use it)
/var/www/homeprodigy.com/htdocs/blog/media/kunena/attachments/legacy/category_images
/var/www/homeprodigy.com/htdocs/blog/media/kunena/attachments/legacy/files
/var/www/homeprodigy.com/htdocs/blog/media/kunena/attachments/legacy/images
a) You can copy the contents of _kunena.files.distribution under components/com_kunena to your Joomla root, under images/ folder.
b) If you already have the contents there, but Kunena installation was not able to make them writable, then please do it manually.

I am learning so just to confirm... these are no big deal, right?

Is it better to :
a) do this work manually as the message says
b) create these 5 folders and then uninstall & install Kunena again fresh?????

Many thanks,
Mike

From what version did you upgrade?

Please look at upgrade instructions:
